Turbo won't boost above 10psi

Not sure if these go together...

I did a bunch of work over the winter..

removed remote oil filter setup..also did a bunch of wiring stuff...

But when I restarted a bunch of sooty oil stuff sprayed all over the place near the turbo and it dripped from the turbo exhaust/downpipe area on to the shock mount...it has now stopped..but now I am not generating any boost.

I can hear it spooling up but just gives up..any ideas?

Oil pressure seems to be very high 60-80psi

Thanks

No cat on there, running a 3" exhaust straight out. Also, hooked up a Forge Motorsports actuator and it ran good..until I started getting into more stuff...

I got rid of the PCV system and did some reading and wondering if I am not venting enough, therefore causing backpressure at boost and thus backing up the oil return line from the turbo...?

I'm having the same issue....just started tonight Adam. ...hmmm...it's the night of not building boost...wth

Haha...sux. I was swapping around those springs on the forge actuator...was ready to start maximizing power with my stock setup and everything fell apart...oh yea and a piece of cladding went flying off during testing! HOUSED!

I have a forge also and just went up to the larger spring just to see. ..didn't make a diff. Still having issues building boost past 10psi....fml.

Were you dripping/spraying any oil initially? I fired the thing up and it sprayed and dripped a little oil from the exhaust side and then stopped. I originally thought it was gas because it is running so rich at idle. Not sure what the hell happened. I was running 15 psi yesterday, now dropped to 10 psi and I switched back to the original blue spring. Good times!

Is that the smallest spring? I have the small...medium. ..large.. nope no oil or anything. ..

I had the same issue, turns out it's the throttle body not opening all the way, due to a stretched cable. Throttle cables are NLA and specific to syty. Had to do the spacer trick.

With the truck off, press the pedal as far as it will go, have a friend do this while you note throttle blade position.

I noticed my issue while doing a data log, 80% is all I was seeing in TPS

Where did you put a spacer and do you have any pictures of what you did?

If your fooling around with the wastegate I would look their first.

Are you using the factory boost solenoid and ECM to control boost? Did you hook up the wastegate actuator vacuum line to the higher of the two vacuum on the driver side of the solenoid (lower one is vent). Is wastegate flapper closed when the wastegate actuator is closed? (You should have to pull the wastegate actuator rods out a little bit to put it on the actuator.)

You may want to try temporary eliminating the solenoid by directly connecting the wastegate actuator to the turbo vacuum ports. On a stock wastegate it should make around 8-9 psi (don't expect 15psi). To see what the base boost of the wastegate is. If its making 10psi bypassing the solenoid, than it would indicate a something affecting the boost control of the ECM or solenoid.

Re: Turbo won't boost above 10psi

Using a aem truboost....saw a brief 12 psi on the way to work..checked to see if the wastegate was able to open freely with actuator arm off...set it back on too pull it about people say 1/2 to 7/8 back over the wastgate flapper rod on the arm...checked the floor mat too just for kicks...not bunched up... possible throttle body cable...

It's just a six

What percent do you have the Truboost set to?

What is your spring pressure set to on the Truboost?

Re: Turbo won't boost above 10psi

There's 2 different places to put the spacers. I used nylon spacers I found at Ace Hardware. You can put them on the throttle cable where it connects to the linkage, it spaces the line off the cam to take up slack.

Or the less ghetto way, go to the accelerator cable. See how much play you have in the line by pressing it down and seeing when it starts to grab the cable. You can them insert the spacers where the cable attaches to the pedal. It's tight down there, and a real pain in the ass to see or maneuver your hands but it's the best solution.

Someone on here posted pics of doing both of these but I do t have the link.

Just verify first that you are not getting full 100% open blade first

Re: Turbo won't boost above 10psi

boost leak
shot turbo
truck is not running right and not producing proper exhaust gas flow
wastegate puck stuck open.
bad boost controller
bad vacuum line
TPS not at 100%

Re: Turbo won't boost above 10psi

Here's what I found.....lmk know what you guys think? Looks like soot coming out at the exhaust side of the turbo.... so I found a nut that was alittle loose and tightened it up...thought I'd try a different spring in my BOV its a jgs 500 and went from medium to large just for kicks....I'll drive is in a bit and let you all know...The truboost is set at 35% duty cycle and 9.2 spring pressure...This is for just a six.

Wow yea, AT..having the same exact issue...we are both running the Forge actuator but I'm not using a boost controller.

Re: Turbo won't boost above 10psi

I feel like I have a oil pressure issue somewhere...I seem to be running much higher oil pressure numbers...unless the gauge is off.

I eliminated the remote filter and got rid of the EGR stuff, so I could be causing backpressure in the oil system if it is not vented enough.

AT have you tried removing the hoses from the wastegate to the turbo and testing? Gonna try that tonight.
