Turbo link problems!

Warning! Sorry long post

Well after seeing everyone saying how good turbolink is for buicks and the way it is setup I really liked it. When I saw the cheap price I decided to buy it and got it a few days ago. Now here is the problem, I installed it on my laptop, its a 1-2 year old dell with lots of bells and whistles so I know the laptop is plenty for the program to run. Well we are trying to make sure everything is okay on my dads recently purchased typhoon so we hook it up, start driving and come to a stop and it is idling high and we are thinking its never done that before. Well when doing like 25 mph and letting off the gas it would stay at 1600 rpms. Well while driving I am getting familar with the new setup and notice the o2 crosscounts and staying at 0-2 which I am thinking is very low, okay so maybe it needs an o2 sensor? So we stop for gas and put it in park and idle is 1200 so we left it running to see if it would set a check engine light, nope idle came down to 750. Then we start going home and notice the ilde is like it should be, but the crosscounts are still screwy. So we stop at home and it was idling awesome better than ever before so after letting it idle for 20 seconds all of a sudden rpms go back up to 1200 so we unplug the cable and idle slowly goes back to 750.
Well to see if it was the ty or the turbolink I hooked it up to a friends ty last night and the second I plugged the cable in the idle went to 1200 and I did not even have turbolink running yet.

Has anyone had this problem? Also on my friends ty the o2 crosscounts were 0-2 but in datamaster they are normal just like my ty.
If anyone would like I can email a zip file of the turbo link. I posted here first but plan on contacting turbolink to see what they say.
Other than the problem though I really like it the layout is very nice and the help for the malf code is real cool. Thanks for any help in advance.

Truckless. For now.
the high idle is from plugging in the cable, not T-Link. When it's plugged in, you truck goes into aldl mode, or diagnostic mode = fast idle. 1200 is slightly high. mine idles right about 1000 when i have the cable plugged in.

as far as the O2 stuff, i'm sure someone that knows DM and normal values will chime in. I'm still learning all that stuff myself.

So I guess they're selling Turbo Link with the wrong cable for SyTy's then? Some vehicles require you to put it into ALDL mode before you can read the data. SyTy's don't.

i really can't answer that. it's just what i was told. i wonder if they know that...

Kwick6 as soon as I saw your post I remember seeing in turbolink that you should not go wot when it is in aldl mode blah blah so I went searching and found it in the help. Now the question though is why does it stay in aldl mode and why would the 02 crosscount be screwed up?

Now like Erue said why does turbolink have this and datamaster does not? I have emailed turbolink with no response yet.
Will update when I hear back from turbolink.

I had this problem when I tried to use diacom on my truck, it would only link in diagnostic (ALDL) mode. It needed to be in Normal mode, but diacom didn't like my laptop.

I never seen the problem happen with datamaster, as it works on just about all laptops with a min of 32mb RAM.

Not sure, since I've havent used turbolink... it might be something similar to diacom and you just need to link in normal mode.

OK, first of all there is no "wrong cable" :) . The TurboLink hardware works with all vehicles and you don't have to do hardware mods or anything to use it on different vehicles. The software and hardware are designed to work as a package that you can update for FREE with VehiclePaks for all the different vehicles without changing hardware (except you need a little adapter for the 94/95 F-body/Vette since they have an OBDII connector under the dash).

The ALDL mode is controlled from the software ... the hardware supports automatic switching of the mode in and out (like you have to do with TPI Camaros/Firebirds/Vettes).

Some laptops and USB adapters seem to have the tendancy to override the software setting of the signal that tells the hardware to switch in and out. Seems to be some of the newest laptops are the biggest culprits.

Now that we have the skinny as to WHY it happens, here's the troubleshooting steps:

* First, try another laptop (or USB adapter, if you are using one). If the problem is solved, then we know it's definitely the laptop. If the problem persists, then it might be that the TurboLink module got a static zap and killed the part of the box that controls the signal (pretty rare, but it can happen) or the cable going to module had the strain relief fail and it pulled the wires loose/shorted them.

* At that point, you can send the complete unit back to us for replacement/repair (for FREE) *OR* you do the following to "patch around it" until you can get a moment to spare the setup long enough for us to do some testing with you (if you feel comfortable with messing with the cable).

1. On the cable end (DB25) that plugs into the black box (module), remove the two screws that hold the case together.
2. NOTE how the strain relief cable goes together in the shell
3. Clip the ORANGE wire (be careful not clip the red wire... ONLY the ORANGE wire).
4. Tuck it out of the way so it won't make contact with anything.
5. Reassemble the shell
6. Retest ... this will disable the ALDL function to prevent it from jumping into ALDL mode.

If that doesn't work, PLEASE contact us directly and we'll work with you to handle this situation. We're here to provide the support, and I only get a chance to once in awhile read the board, so I hate to think we might miss a thread like this.

We'll get you up and running! Thanks! :D

Well I am using a year or two old laptop so that could be the problem. So there not a way to change the mode it is in on the program?
If I understand what you said correctly you are telling me to cut one wire in the cable and it should work fine?
Also this would not screw up any kind of warranty by me doing this?
I would try another laptop but it is kind of a pain in the ass to borrow one and cutting a wire is much easier.
Thanks for the help.

For the Sy/Ty, there's no way to change modes via the program (by design). Probably won't do anything anyway, since I think the laptop is overriding the software anyway.

READ THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE CUTTING WIRES

Just want to make sure that we don't get the wrong wire cut. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, send the entire unit back to me and I'll fix it for you and do some testing.

We stand behind our stuff ... just ask the Buick guys ... I have fixed stuff that is 8+years old for free! :)

I want you to be happy and to get the use of the package that you paid for ... again, drop us some email at accelerate@acceleratetech.com, go to our support forum at http://www.turbo-link.com/discus or give us a call at 970-226-3867 and we'll get you up and running. :D

Well if I feel comfortable to tear apart my truck that was running fine I think I can tear apart a wire connector :D
It was very simple there were only 4 wires and I don't think I am color blind so I should have cut the right one and I will try it tonight or tommorow Thanks.

GREAT! Lemme know what you find ... I'm guessing that ought to do it and we can go from there.

Thanks!
