Turbo Fluxuation

I have finally put everything motor-wise back to 99% stock, but I am getting boost fluxuation between 12-14.7 psi. I need a list of things to check and things to do in order to remedy this problem (I have no check engine lights and codes are clear).

Every other aspect of the truck is fine; this strange fluxuation is the only problem left.

I'm finally getting 18 mpg. As soon as this fluxuation is fixed, the custom tuning begins in a quest for 20+ mpg.

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

you could have knock also, and the ECM is trying to get back to base boost, could be a whole lot of things..
Datamaster is the key to succes..

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

Knock isn't an issue, it looks relatively normal except for the flux between 12-14.7 psi.

I have not tried a new solenoid. Any specifics regarding the name of the component I'll need to order and part numbers?

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

looks similar to mine with stock wastegate. might try and adjust the rod and see if it gets any better.

i played with mine, eventually gave up and got a minigate

I still need some help figuring this out.. Keep the ideas coming. The datamaster file is attached above.

Hit your WG flapper with some GM heat riser lube or something Graphite/Nickel based.
Turn the rod in (tighten it) 2-3 turns.

Also check for a leaking WG servo canister... pressurize it under water and see if you
see bubbles.

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

Alright, it's been a few weeks, but I lubed the WG flapper up with Park graphite grease and turned the waste gate in two and then four turns in to see if it would fix the flux.

The boost rises much faster with the additional turns, but it still fluxuates between 10.5 and 14.7 psi on it's way down a run.

I turned the WG rod back to the recommended two additional turns in after the four turns didn't work either.

I need a little more information on how to test the WG servo canister, and also a recommendation on the best place to get a new solenoid (not used)?

Anybody know what the deal is with the TCC lockup as well?

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

The part has been ordered; hopefully it fixes the fluxuation problem.

Thanks for confirming the part name and number. I live in the middle of nowhere and the only dealer in the area is extremely unreliable. I've never ordered from gmpartsdirect until now and I admit that I'm still relatively new to syty and boost-related parts...

I appreciated the roll-eyes.

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

Ben, this is a common problem that sometimes never gets fixed using the stock WG...it's just not properly sized, hence many people go to externals. You can try all the tricks in the book, but sometimes its just not enough. Its a common problem. What are your future plans for the truck? Did you decide to keep it?

Re: Turbo Fluxuation

I am 85% keeping it, but I don't think it is going to be my toy anymore. I don't have any plans for the truck because I have no money for what I would want to do. I am going to fix this strange fluxuation and then drive and enjoy it.. Even though that's sort of hard when gas is getting harder and harder for me to afford...
