tunerpro questions

I have a couple questions regarding tuner pro ....

1) does tuner pro have data logging capability?
2) I know that you can edit the fuel tables ... can you also edit timming?
3) what do you have to do to chip the ECU .... where do you buy the chip.... is there a write up on how to chip the ECU ... I already have an ostrich
4) if there is no datalogging capability where do you buy the datamaster cable

Re: tunerpro questions

Yes it datalogs (the RT version). There are also quite a few good threads about all this stuff recently- with pictures. With Tunerpro you can change ANYTHING on the chip- fuel, timing, boost, idle speed, EGR parameters, torque converter lockup,- EVERYTHING. You dont need to "chip" your ecm. It already has a chip, that you will remove and plug in your Ostrich. When your done tuning you can just leave the Ostrich in the truck or save the file and burn it to a chip to reinstall into the ECM in place of the stock chip.

do you have to buy the datamaster cable to datalog with tunerpro?

Re: tunerpro questions

you've got to have an ALDL cable (otherwise known as a Datamaster cable). you can buy one or build one yourself.

Re: tunerpro questions

this is the 2 Transistor cable I built. I incorporated it into the ECM wiring so that it's semi-permanently installed. cost ~$15 with all parts available at RadioShack. works perfectly. this is for a laptop with a serial port.

from the website:

"The transistors used in this circuit are generic NPN transistors. 2N3904, 2N2222, or similar will work just fine. This circuit is not particularly sensitive to the gain of the transistors, they are operating well into saturation, and the baud rate is slow enough that switching times are not particularly important either. We are using surface mount versions of these generic transistors so that everything fits nicely in the DB9 backshell, for your RS-232 port. The diode is also a generic low-power switching diode such as the 1N914 or 1N4148. All the resistors are 10K, and again, the circuit is quite tolerant of component variations. If you have a supply of 5K or 20K resistors, these will work also. Try not to get too far afield from these values or the switching times will suffer."

Re: tunerpro questions

Thats the same schematic I used to build my old cable. It works just fine, but it really needs to be used on a laptop with a serial DB-9 port. I had so many problems on my newer laptop trying USB to serial adapters that I bought the Autoprom- which is all USB.

If you dont have a laptop with a serial port, get ready to play with adapters. I bought four, and none worked on my Dell. I had good luck with a Radio Shack adapter on my Compaq though. The other alternative is to pick up a used laptop with the serial port on EBAY. You can find them for $80-$200 all day long. I would look for one with a serial port AND a USB.
