Re: Tune up scare

this one had 35000 miles and looked great.......

Replace your vacuum lines first. As others mentioned, the correct PCV valves are important. Start the truck, take off the oil cap and put your ear to it....if you hear/feel pressure coming out, its a ring/piston issue. A leakdown test will be of benefit, then you can see exactly where the compression is going.

Re: Tune up scare

It's been awhile, but the Ty is almost ready!!!! The motor was taken apart and b/b. Installed forged pistons .030 over and a host of other mods. Since I took it to Matt@tunetime, I have moved to Sarasota, FL(to be closer to my daughter :D). I am flying up to NJ in 2 weeks to pick it up and drive it back to Florida. I am so excited. I will give a full review after I pick it up.

I plan on taking 2 days to dive the roughly 1200 miles. I will change the oil before the morning of the second day. I'll probably be in a hotel parking lot in GA/SC.

Cool, welcome to FL. Make it to some meets and become a part of FAST. We have a meet coming up in Miami, perfect shakedown for your Ty and to get some mods done if you want. You've got some neighbors in the sarasota area (Canadian) and surrounding Tampa area.

Re: Tune up scare

Just got finished packing. I will see my Ty in about 24 hrs. My quoted 2-3 week job at Tunetime took almost 4 months.........it better be worth it. I am so nervous. I hope it makes it to Sarasota because there is no more $$ left until summer. Wish me luck.

Re: Tune up scare

I've been right where you are now. If you search hard enough you will find 2 for sale ads I posted in complete frustration that would have been giving the truck away at quite a loss.

Step away from it for a day. A week if need be. Then go back at it rationally.

There is a reason you will always hear about a love/hate relationship with these things. You will have to learn this truck yourself because you won't find many mechanics who know what a Ty is let alone how to work on one.

Where are you located anyway?

So true

Good advice

Re: Tune up scare

The good news is that I made it home and had a great Christmas with friends/family! The bad news is the following -

The cruise doesn't work and the a/c either. My turbo oil return line is leaking nicely from the 2 bolts that connect it to the turbo(and how the hell do I tighten these). My hvac lights are not working. 2 header bolts were missing?? My right rear cladding has a nice crack in it now. I also had the wheel lock at my house but instead of calling me they drilled out the front wheel locks and put allen bolts in.

After about 30 mins. of driving, I pull over to check on things. Below is a picture of what I smell/see - Sorry for the big pic but want you to see it -

They ziptied electrical lines to my medal oil line. Obviously it was melting.

I called Matt@Tunetime on the way home and told him of the a/c problem. He seemed uninterested in helping so I know these other "issues" would be swept under the rug too. Makes me kind of want to call my c.c. company and see if I have a right to partially cancel charges. Oh well, besides all of this and letting them keep my Ty 1/3 of a year on a "2-3 week job" I am pleased.

I don't want to come across as negative but these are just facts.

*edit* - They also told me that my miles have been rolled back with a "snicker"........that it really has about 70-80000 miles. That is just crazy talk. This Ty is mint and miles/carfax were researched. I guess they were trying to make me feel good????
