trouble with datamaster

i have an ibm think pad with win 98 it works and the datamaster program works but i cannot get it to connect to the car it says aldl is working but no pcm what is pcm and how do imake datamaster work thank you

Some laptops have a problem with the engine computer not connecting after the the laptop is running.
Try turning the key to on first before starting the laptop.

If that doesnt help make sure you have the right com port setup on the computer.

The last thing to do is try the serial communication timing under the option menu in the record ALDL section, then the advanced tab.

Also try the Datamaster help section
Search for help on:
"Setting up and Acquiring ALDL data"

It also has a large list of acronyms in it including:
PCM Powertrain Control Module

I had the same error. all i did to get it to work is just keep trying, it eventually worked.

make sure the cable is plugged in all the way. sometimes they exhibit "nintendo syndrome". if you had one, you know what I mean.

is it the stock chip in the computer?
