Trip Odometer Broken?

TYRODD

My ass. Look at it.
My trip odometer has not been working about three months now, all other guages including my odometer work fine. The meter reads 000.# all the time...whats funny is that the tenths place actually turns...WTF? :-?

Is there some teeth in the guage that might have been sheared off or something?
Not really a big deal, the only real purpose I used it for was calculating my fuel mileage...which doesnt really do anything because it has always bean god-awefull :x

TIA!

Mine does the same thing. Mine will get to 107 or 108 then stop. My odometer also works properly. Is the trip on a seperate cable? Not a big deal but it would be nice to have everything working.

I've found I have to 'adjust' mine. The little pin to reset sticks. If you move the gauge panel up/down/side-to-side about 2mm it'll fix it.

Re: Trip Odometer Broken?

My odometer doesn't work. The trip odometer works fine. I removed the gauge cluster to check it out. There are no speedometer cables. Everything runs off of signals from the ECM. The odometers run from pulse motors. The little gears that connect the motor to the numbers are nylon with no noticeable lubrication. The number tumblers look to be the same old number tumblers that they have been using for 50 years.

Soooo, does anyone know how to test the little pulse motors so I can determine if it is the motor or something else?

Last resort is to send it out to be repaired. Just incase, is there anyone out there that repairs odometers for these trucks?

Re: Trip Odometer Broken?

as bill said, no cables. The entire cluster is electronic. I've got one here that works great I'd sell; open to offers. I had to buy a donor cluster to get my fuel gauge and temp gauges to work properly, so I've got this boneyard leftover.

I don't know if the motors are stepper motors, pulse-width driven or just straight up DC motors (.25V=5rpm, .50V=10rpm, etc). From looking at what I've got, it's one of those "if it craps out, get another" parts. As soon as you take it apart to see what went wrong, stuff flies everywhere and it's 100% torched.

Re: Trip Odometer Broken?

judging from your above post, you need the regular odometer. The only one I have is a spare trip odometer. I don't have a spare regular one. Sorry.....

Thanks anyway.

Before you posted your reply, I was wondering how to set a diffrent odometer to the same milage my truck has.

Maybe someone will have an idea of how ti fix or replace an odometer.

Re: Trip Odometer Broken?

You know, I just noticed this the other day. Mine will start going when I zero it out, but after a few miles it will start to count back and then go 999, 998, 997.. ect. I was like WTF?! Everything else works like you guys have said.

I saw this post the other day and just thought of it.
