Re: transmissions
Any 4x4 700r4 that came behind a 4.3 or a 5.7 will fit and work.
If you want a cheap rebuild, it's very possible. If your putting down a consistent 650 HP, not a good idea. 4L80E will fit with Jeff's kit. I've built some using his kit as have other well known shops(Bowler Trans). There are some goodies available for the 4L80E that will make it the last trans you ever buy. Literally.
Sounds like you just wanna throw something in there to make the truck move though.
Actually it's cheaper to build a 4L80E (itself) than it is to build a 700r4. I can update everything in it and still come up cheaper than a fully built 700 and the thing hold up to more than any 700. The thing that gives the initial scare factor is the Gilbert shaft that you need...you have to buy now. The torque converter that you've been putting off, you HAVE to buy now. The computer is only $650 that runs it and that's not really a hinderance once you've pulled a governor 5 or 6 times. Then there's Jeff's kit. Makes it bolt in.
If you've got $15K in a motor, $2.5K in a turbo, why put in a $1500 trans and $200 torque converter? Does that make sense?
