Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

Looking for a company that will provide me with a rebuild kit that will hold up under load for my original 700r trans. I will be running a 2800 stall converter if that means anything.

I know there is a lot of members here with modified trucks. Some go 4l80 to eliminate this step.

Looking for a handful of names/reccomendations on heavy duty rebuild.

Thanks

Is this your bush?
Re: Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

I used this kit. I think several other have also. No problems over the past 3 years. As you know, one key to these trans surviving is a very good transmission cooler setup.

X2 ...ask any builder about heat and transmissions. Get your self a large cooler....maybe new braided trans lines. Before I got my trans rebuilt after it failed it would run 190°-200°+ sometimes...espcially after hard driving .....now with a large transcooler....braided lined and a larger capacity 2+qt. pan with "cooler tubes" running parallel in the bottom of the pan. It barely get to 160°- 170° and that's beating on it..
..boost launching it ....WOT at stop signs. One of the best investments so far I think....

Re: Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

Ok so I was lucky. I spoke to probuilt today. Had a kit ordered up finally after almost jumping ship.

I know I'm going to need a cooler. Just figuring out what fits best/where and works.

I bought a alum. +2qt finned cast pan a while back. Wasn't sure if I wanted to use it or not...

Couple more things to look into.

that looks like good kit ... the only thing i dont care for is the modified cast over run piston to fit the sleeved input drum

I have that kit too with the 2800 edge converter. It was a blast while my engine lasted.. about 500 miles after getting trans iirc LOL. It's priced reasonably but I had a bit of a wait on my parts as well. You'll enjoy it for sure. I didn't get a cooler but I rarely did more than one boost launch during a drive. If my heap is ever up and running again I'll probably put one in.

Currently have that kit so far so good 8k on it and alot of launch's just hopefully it'll hold up with the new pte I just threw on I currently have a big trans cooler and deeper finned pan

Re: Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

I sent the stuff off to my builder. He was pretty impressed with what I brought. He was curious to how much I sank into it.

I think you and him spoke for a while. He said he did call.

I am going to have him check out my converter, he wants to check it out.. Make sure there isn't any sharp edges. And I want him to tune up the transfer case with a cleansing and new seals.

I purchased a street/strip kit in 2009. It has been a good one. Good company.

Re: Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

I spoke to dean at pro built last week now I can't get ahold of him! I'm really trying to buy his kit verses getting a rebuild. I finally found a trans guy that would build using someone else's kit but he stays real busy and I don't want my ty down too long. Does anyone know of any other place to get a kit as good as pro built?

Re: Transmission rebuild ( hard parts )

I have only seen one crack since 1982, and that was in a core that I tore down. So what happened to you, is very rare. I have had many hundreds of these stock overrun pistons reworked since 1998 and have never had one fail (crack) that I know of.

I went with the pro street elite kit.

Nice. Was curious about your build (engine). I dropped off my AWD transfer case and converter off to shop, like 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking it was a mistake... Only wanted a new seal put in. Been atleast 2 weeks no calls. Called yesterday after high noon and was expecting a call back and another day has gone by. I'm really curious to what they are up to. Wonder if something broke/went wrong and they have no way of explaining it? (only with me right!?)Transmission was a 1 week turn around. Maybe they will call me tomorrow?
