Trans Temp Gauge Install

I got my Autometer trans temp guage a while back and i am wanting to install it soon.

What is the best/easiest/accurate place to install the thermometer part?
I saw a remote trans filter on http:www.summitracing.com and read somewhere it works well.
I also have a B&M tranny cooler laying around in my garage waiting for an install.

their is a small plug on the side of the tranny by the linkage. on the driver side about 1/2 way up. that is a good spot

I bought the autometer mechanical temp guage and the remote filter and the sender wouldnt fit. I had a bung made in my tranny pan when I got the new three speed put in.

The electrical Autometer sender fits into the Summit filter cap. Install the filter on your outside line (the one comming from the tranny to the cooler). This way you will measure at the hotest point. The temps are much higher than in the pan...

With the 4 port you have plenty of ports.
I used one for the temp sender & the other for the fan switch.

You just need to figure out what size filter thread you want to use.

The easiest way will be to use the remote filter setup, install the filter after the cooler.

The filter assembly needs to be Before the cooler. That way you see the actual temps the trans is subjected to. The other reason is when the trans fails the filter will help keep your cooler from getting contaminated.

Trying to get things ready for converting to braided lines.

Ok as far as the path goes.....
out the trans--->external filter w/temp gauge--->stock lower radiator--->stock upper--->B&M cooler--->back to the trans

AT THE TRANS----------

So at the trans, use a fitting like this...1/4"NPT to -6AN
aai.thumb.jpg

and then attach one of these...
300090degEnd.jpg

-------------------------------
AT THE FILTER

at the filter use...1/2"NPT to -6AN straight(just like the one used in the trans, just 1/2" NPT)

for a frame mount you can use ----->
3000StraightEnd.jpg
-------------------------------
AT THE RADIATOR

if its 1/2"NPT, then just another straight like used with the external filter above. Although I'm not sure what the threads are at the radiator so please feel free to correct this.

and one of these for the upper output...because of the tight space.

---------------------------------
AT THE COOLER

then the input/output of the cooler would depend on if you can get one with male -6AN fittings built into it, so then you would just connect the -6AN hose ends to the cooler and the output to the cooler goes back to the trans.

I'm not sure if this is what I need, so let me know if its even close. :D

heh, I suck. Thanks for the link. 8)

I can't believe such a thing existed.....damn. Well I guess that sums it up, and makes things much easier. Thanks for that work Tom, really saves me a ton of time.

I want that same cooler, but will probably get the external filter w/temp gauge hookup instead of the temp manifold.

Re: Trans Temp Gauge Install

Here's what you used to be able to use:
IMG_0246.sized.jpg

"Summit remote transmission filter part #SUM-G4980. Filter is upstream of all coolers mounted where the stock battery tray was. Temperature sender is between the lines. NOTE: this part NO LONGER has provision for a temperature sender from Summit."

Now, you will have to drill (.332" letter "Q" drill) and tap (1/8" X 27 N.P.T.) it yourself if you want to run a transmission temperature gauge.
