Trans racket

Stab it and steer it
I think umpteen trips down the 1/4 mile may have caught up with my trans. I got a noise that sounds like one heck of a bad wheel bearing coming from the front of the trans. You can also hear it going down the road. Varies directly with engine RPM. 1/4 mile times and speeds may have dropped a little, hard to tell. Except for the racket the truck runs, drives and shifts normal.

I have a good local trans shop that I can take it to for his opinion. I'm thinking it might be the sprag but since I'm no automatic trans guy I'm not sure if a bad sprag even makes noise.:rotf: So just wondering.

Re: Trans racket

unbolt the converter and see if you still have the noise. may be a loose flexplate.

Re: Trans racket

I thought of that but to me a loose flex plate would make more of a knock like sound. Anyhow I'll pull it and see what happens.

Thanks.

Re: Trans racket

nope. a loose flexplatre will rattle. sound kinda like it's hitting the starter. if it is loose replace it. they will devlope stree cracks and you will soon break it. they are cheap and you have to do the same work either way. so if it's loose put a new one in there.
