trans has no overdrive.

took the brick out for small cruise 20 min or so. trans shifts normal thru 1st 2nd 3rd lock up but never goes into od . linkage is adjusted 1st thing i checked. trans doesn,t slip or anything weird. just no od. is there something thats common on these or is od gone. thks:

nope, only solenoid is the one for the converter. OD uses the 3-4 clutches and 2-4 band. so if you have 2nd and 3rd but no 4th and NO other unusual problems then I suspect your 4th gear servo may be stuck.

if you have any other symptoms that may change things.

there is no other symtoms except when u get off the throttle the engine goes to idle no matter what speed you are at. so when you hit the gas again the engine has to rev up to catch up to the trans.is this servo accessible from the pan. thks

The servo goes in through the outside of the case, in a lot of vehicles you can service it with the tranny in place. They make aftermarket HD ones, but I'm not sure they're worth the $70 to $100 cost

the servo is on the passenger side of the case. the fact you have to rev it up to get the engine to catch up to the road speed means you have no overrun clutches, they are burnt up or the sprag has cooked.

in any situation you need to fix the trans sooner or later. if you continue to limp it, it will only cost you more when you finally get around to it.

hey if i put it down into drive or 3rd.everthing is fine engine doesn,t go down to idle.not driving vehicle hardly at all. just fixed a couple of small engine issues.if this is super serious i,ll get it towed but if i can drive it to trans shop i,ll do that. thks

you should be able to drive it to the trans shop just fine. what is broken won't do you any more harm than it already has.
