Trans fluid line fittings

Aeroking

e.i.
I used a SyTy diagram i found, when ordering my transmission fluid lines and fittings.

The diagram showed that the thread on the transmission were 1/4" NPT, and to order a 1/4" NPT to -6 45 fitting. Well, i bought the fittings, and the threads on the transmission are not 1/4" NPT.

I should've used common sense and realized that the taps into the radiator, and the taps on the trans should be the same. But i didnt look into it.

With the transmission already installed, does anyone know what thread size is tapped into the brass fittings on the transmission?? i dont have any spare fittings to test the threads, and its really tough to reach with the trans already in the truck.

Are the threads 1/2-20 like the ones tapped into the radiator?

nice info.
not sure if i should put it in here. but why do we all put so much effort in keeping the stock cooler connected? if you just put it a bigger cooler under the car. it would be so much cleaner and easier to install.
(did the same thing with my Ty. thining about only running a big cooler under the bed of the Sy)

I'm getting ready to do this with the B&M 70297 (has the fan and temp switch).

i'm running a big cooler infront of the aluminum radiator, cooler has a fan on it. But i dont wanna burn up the big $$ trans. just being cautious.

on a side note, just pondering this. perhaps the brass fittings have a male thread of 1/4 NPT, and a female thread of 1/2-20. If thats the case, then the fittings i bought will fit, but i have to remove the stock brass fittings. hmmm. wonder if its worth the trouble of removing them.

Re: Trans fluid line fittings

the stock trans hardlines have a 1/2-20 inverted flare thread on both sides.

So on the radiator side, the diagram is correct, but on the transmission side it is incorrect, unless the brass fittings are removed... I'd have to remove the fittings to see if the thread into the case is 1/4 NPT.

Brandon just run the one cooler dont worry about the one built into the radiator, that one is going to get up to the temp of the coolant anyway and it wont make the trans fluid any cooler than your cooler with a fan.

my problem isnt at the radiator. its at the transmission case.

the 1/4 NPT fitting i bought, does not fit the brass fittings on the transmission case. Before i remove the brass fittings to see if the case is tapped 1/4 NPT, i'd like some input, if anyone has done it before.

i'd hate to remove the brass fittings and gawl up the case threads, if the case threads arent 1/4 NPT. other wise, i'll just buy 1/2-20 fittings that will thread into the brass fittings.

ok, so i have to remove the brass fittings.

Depends on how you want to set it up.
You can run the standard NPT in there. They are a lot easier to fnd. Just make sure you use some sealer on the threads.
On my Sy I ran 1/4"npt x -6 adapter fittings in the case & -6 fittings & lines throughout.
Since the i.d. on the 1/4"npt side was smaller than the -6an side of the adapter fitting, I drilled out the npt side so that the adapter fitting was the same i.d. all the way through.

i took the brass fittings out , the other end of the brass fitting is 1/4 npt . didnt have any issues with the threads in the case.
