Ok now i just got my Tranny from RPM and the motor still has to be put togeather but i have a question about a trans cooler, Would it be smart to get the Cooler that has a fan and only run it, instead of running it through the Radiator then to the cooler..... Would it cool it enough???????

Re: Trans Cooler ????

I know Ed Hess has done it using 2 of those tranny coolers with fans, but his application and truck are quite unique.

Its my understanding, than using an Air to Liquid cooler (aka tranny cooler) alone, is not efficient enough to remove the necessary amount of heat to keep the transmission cool, especially under hard driving applications (racing, stalling, boost launches, ect).

The Liquid to Liquid cooler within the radiator is more efficient when it comes to removing a majority of the heat from the transmission fluid and then by adding an external cooler you can further drop those temps.

I personally run the B&M 28000 cooler in my truck after the radiator and my temps are very cold, almost too cold, especially in the winter.

I wouldnt run just an external cooler alone, but thats just my opinion, im sure others will chime in with theirs as well.

Re: Trans Cooler ????

Under my Typhoon I had a trans cooler mounted level on the x-member with a SPAL fan on top to pull air from below. The SPAL is on a switch so I can turn it on and off when I please. (Off during highway cruising, On while in stop and go)

The Sy is using a Hayden cooler mounted behind the grille (Aux IC Style) with braided lines. Not using the radiator cooler anymore. Since the Sy is the truck I race and throw all the big mods at, dont know if im happy with this combo and might decide to do a similar setup as the Typhoon in the future, but possibly add an external trans filter as well for extra comfort.
