Trans cooler

I'm looking for a decent trans cooler for when my tranny gets back this week from a rebuild. Does anyone use the one on RPMs site? Can anyone recommend a decent cooler? I'll spend a few extra bucks if it makes the difference. I've seen some really nice ones on jegs. thanks

Is this your bush?
Re: Trans cooler

Just get the b&m large cooler with braided trans lines from rpm unless you wanna make yours....I also got a derale trans pan + extra 2 qts in pan and it has a drain plug on it....my builder told me that if you can change your trans fluid often do it because transmissions love clean fluid and the drain plug is a definite just my opinion ...Trans temp gauge and I'd say now with the setup I have even when I beat on it the trans does not get above 150° ....I consider that excellent ....whereas with the stick setup it was running in the high 190° even into the 200° + range on a hit summer day.

I'm using the one from RPM, basically it is a off the shelf item, using it on my 4l80e swap. Seems to work o.k.

Re: Trans cooler

Where are you guys mounting these out of curiosity? The one from Summit looks super nice but with the fan attached I'd think it would be hard to fit behind the grill. In front of the lower radiator?

If you get one with a fan, you can literally put it anywhere you want. You can put it under the vehicle somewhere and it will be fine.

Re: Trans cooler

Not to hi-jack this thread but I've been doing searches on trans coolers to see what people are doing and there's quite a bit of variety as far as the way people are going with different trans coolers. Doesn't seem to be a "favorite" that people are endorsing. I've even read that people are leaving the factory trans cooler alone and supplementing on top?

I would think you'd replace the factory trans cooler with a larger one but is there just a simple replacement trans cooler that can go behind the grill that won't stick out like a sore thumb but is larger? RPM has a reasonable one as far as price goes but it mentions nothing about factory plumbing or fittings matching up. I know I need one just don't want one that will give me installation headaches.

Re: Trans cooler

Some people piggy back the stock trans cooler with an external cooler. It's a long debate but they do that so the trans oil stays at the temp it's supposed to be at. The RPM kit is like that I believe.
