TRANNY IN AZ HELP PLEASE

I dropped my tranny in my ty yesterday! Are all 700r4 tranny's the same? Is there any difference in one out of a 89 blazer?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! The trannies in these trucks are EXTREMELY specific to these vehicles!!!! Do not buy one from the dealership either!

Do some searching on trannies on this site, then youll know what Im trying to say. Do not let ANY local tranny shop work on it,...period, they might think they know how, but they dont.

Tranny guru needed here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea man i had to learn the hard way, went back to my {local} tranny guy who promised he would have my neck snapping with every shift well only thing that i snapped were 3 trannys now im gettin my money back and sending it out to be done the right way. i only know from experiance. :wink:

tranny guru?! were do I find one of those?! Is it not the 4l60e? Could a tranny shop do a rebuild? Anyone in AZ help!!!

“Help please” is too generic, change the name of this thread to “tranny help in AZ please” or “who can build a tranny in AZ” or something like that. A 4L60E is electronic, a 700R4 is not. No, it is very unlikely a tranny shop can do a good rebuild. Someone local or at least someone that knows someone local will probably respond before too long.

i know of one tranny guru but he is retired from the business. a tranny out of a regular blazer might last a couple of weeks , thats about it. if i were you i would contact Brian Hartman from this board and talk to him. hes a real nice guy and can get you pointed in the right direction. buying a rebuild kit from him and then taking those parts with his instructions to a tranny shop might be your best bet. you could also try to contact Wes (thats his syty screenname too, hes local) as he has installed a Hartman kit himself. hope this helps....

I have ended up going with some local GN guys for my work. There is a pretty good trany guy (for GNs) locally. If you want more info, just PM me.

Don't count on that. Ed tried that with the three stooges and I don't think they even got it right the last time.

You can do it yourself but it's quite a task. You can take it to a tranny place but you would have to emphasize greatly that the parts are not interchangeable with a regular 700r4, and then still who knows what you will end up with.

How soon do you need the vehicle running? It's best to take your time and get the right stuff. At the very least you should get a TCI rebuild kit and steel forward clutch piston (from GM) and a good converter.

The forward clutch piston you will have to talk to GM I think. When I did the Hartman kit it, it was included. You might ask jwaller about that, he may be able to get it or tell you where to get it.

Im not sure about torque converter, I ran a KB 9/11 and it worked great but I don't think you can get them anymore. The Brian Hartman 9/11 is really expensive. A TCI 9/11 is $480 from Summit, or the 12" converter is $390.

So fstfoon......listen to these guys, don't let that tranny out of your sight! It's a little inconvenient to get it repaired/rebuilt correctly, but it will pay off in the long run.
