Tranny died?

Okay, so for the first time my Ty didn't take me home.
I was driving from the airport, everything was just fine. I stop at some stoplight, and when I hit the pedal again I heard like something banged underneath (more like smth popped), and torque almost disappeared. I floored it a bit (I had to get out of the crossing), it sounded very badly but we managed to get off the road.
I stopped and checked everything - looked okay from underneath, no major leaks, nothing. No strange sounds on N and P, I hear that tranny switches from OD to R and vise versa (or at least it seems to). I hear some quiet high pitch whine when tranny is in R, and another kind of whine when I switch to OD.
No torque to wheels.

WTF? Is there any easy to fix, cheap reason for this? :)

Thanks guys.

Re: Tranny died?

Does it move just the smallest bit when you rev on it in gear? If so I had something very similar happen and it was just the torque converter..

Re: Tranny died?

Fk. I don't have time for the rebuild, I'm leaving the city in 3 weeks. Crap.

There's Ty 700r4 for sale in Moscow right now, $800 including the torque converter.
And I could buy any 4l60e if I find one, and get a controller. I'm not quite sure this is cheaper way, though.

I think there is some tension, yes. Maybe it will move a little, I'm just afraid of killing it.

Re: Tranny died?

Sounds bad. My first car, which also had a 700r4, did what you describe. It ended up being a planetary coming apart and binding up. Don't move the ty, it may end up taking out the case, kinda like what happened to your t-case. Good luck dude.

I have news for you, 99% of the time if you lose a converter you will have all that crap in your trans. Something will last much less time if you don't have it torn down and at least cleaned out.

Re: Tranny died?

What could possibly happen? I can't drop the pan right now, and I can't stop thinking. It doesn't sound very bad in gears, so I don't think there's some big damage out there. It wasn't stuck, just won't pull by itself. No sounds in neutral, so I guess the pump could be okay...
Maybe filter dropped off to pan? :)
#725 obviously doesn't like the idea of being left behind for 3-4 months.

Re: Tranny died?

No, it was not a filter. It was fully seated.

Gave it some hell, it barely moves forward, and doesn't move in the R.

Timing is just perfect! :(

Re: Tranny died?

and don't forget that your trans cooler will have metallic junk in it too. That will ruin your next trans. Bypass the stock radiator cooler and add an external one after flushing the lines thoroughly.

Re: Tranny died?

Yeah, I know.

There was no metal bits and pieces in the pan. Just some black (metal?) dust on the bottom...
