Re: Towing??

you can tow your sy/ty but you have to get a flat bed tow truck. You can't tow it like a regular car otherwise you will totally tear the front dif. or the real dif. Trust me when I first got my SY it was towed and the gut just hooked it up like a normal car and he completly destroyed my front differential ended up sueing and won!! so if you tow make sure it is a flat bed and that they have ramps so you can get it on the flatbed!!!!

I think he wants to put a hitch on a SY and tow a trailer.
I'd definately keep it small like a jet ski or something.
I can't imagine what the 1-2 shift would belike towing a trailer.

same thing applies if its too heavy then you blow the trans.. why risk it these trucks are so touchy as it is its not worth the risk!!!! fixing and replacing things on these trucks is hard enough without putting added presure of pulling something behind them... Lets face it were driving cars with a pick up bed....

Re: Towing??

I always thought it wasnt necessarily the drivetrain, as they are similiar to a regular 4x4 s-10 which can tow. I thought it was more of a problem with the engine tune, that you might load the engine and get under boost where the extra load might get you into detonation.

Re: Towing??

IMO The two main issues are probably

1-Transmission, the stock transmission is overstressed even before towing.
2-Rear Springs, are lower than stock so the rear suspension travel is reduced.

Another issue would be the additional heat caused by the turbo, can the cooling system keep the oil & coolant temps reasonable if towing up long hills and the turbo is in boost for prolonged periods of time.

To tow,1 & 2 I would address and would be mindful of prolonged periods of boost. That being said, I plan on someday use my Sy to tow a small boat.

Re: Towing??

I get all your guys good points. I wil just keep it small and just put my 4wheeler in the bed.

Truckless. For now.
Re: Towing??

TowingTyphoon on the board used his Typhoon for pulling a boat. I know he did some mods to be able to pull safely. It appears he just sold it this year: Towing Typhoon

You might ask him about using one of these trucks to tow something.

Re: Towing??

I used to tow a pair of wave runners with my Sy. Never ran into any probs, just stayed outta boost as much as possible. I got the funniest looks though when I pulled up to the lake and was backing them in. The guy next to me was a massive Silverado, but I guess he didn't feel the need to invest in 4 wheel drive, or the retard couldn't find the button to turn it on. And he was just spinning trying to get his truck off the ramp while it was nuthin for the Sy. Your best bet would be to get a trans temp gauge.

Re: Towing??

I just got an original hitch from one of the board members and I did alot of research before I did any towing with my Syclone. If you stick to no more then a 300 pound tougue weight and no more then a 1200 pound load you will be fine. However, always put it in Drive (not O/D), don't tow long distances if you can help it and never engage the turbo otherwise you will wreck the transmission.

If you have a Typhoon then forget it, don't ever tow with one.
