Coming home from work at lunch, jumped on San Tomas off Pruneyard and there's a long straightaway. I see this Mercedes rolling up behind me real quick - didn't think much of it. So I watched him in my rearview and could tell he was pacing me trying to catch the next light. So I'm sitting at the red light and there are no cars in front or behind us and this guy rolls up next to me. I was not expecting him to try and race a Syclone but he got a big jump on me at the light. I stomped the pedal in vacuum - Ultimate at T1-17 with 91 octane/alky spraying - and went for it. This fucker was pulling hard!
I know the truck was knocking - it always does on pump gas, not audibly, but still, WTF!?! I didn't catch him until about 85 or 90, no joke. To make matters worse, he got out of it just as get even with him so I couldn't prove the point.
Well, I definitely wanted a rematch but he apparently didn't. So this dude dices through traffic up ahead trying to lose me and I do the same trying to catch up. Well, it happened and I am on his ASS at the El Camino/San Tomas intersection staring at him through his mirror (tinted windows). I knew he was gonna' go again as soon as traffic cleared. So we dice through traffic until he gets an opening in the right lane. The guy swerves into the right lane and nails it from about a 50mph roll. I was at least 1.5 cars behind by the time I got into it and I buried my foot and chased him in the right lane. No cars in front at this point - balls out.
So we're both going for broke and I can only stay with him at first...then I slowly start reeling him in. I finally caught him around 100mph and blew by him and then got hard on the binders - thank God for Baer's! I took a left at Monroe and headed home impressed by this 4-door Benz.
Here's what I know about the car. It looked exactly like an E55 but it had an E430 badge at the left rear and no AMG badge anywhere. But, the car did have E55 wheels and it was lowered. So it was either a supercharged E430 or an E55 rebadged (sleeper). No way it was a stock E430. Either way, this thing was quick!
Had I been running 100 octane with boost at T1-20, TC locked, built boost at the line and launched evenly with him, I know I could have wiped him badly...but instead I have to wonder. Oh well, don't underestimate those V8 MBZ's. One of the closest races I ever had with the Sy was against an ML55 and it was a very similar race. Those high-end MBZ's are fast.
Here is some info on the blowers:
