Torque converter recommendations

I am looking at Yank and Precisions torque converters. Both come highly recommended. Any suggestion? I am running forged internals, vortec heads, 412 cam and a PT61. I am starting off with 50# injectors. TIA

i looked into yank a while back...dont think i found locking converter...if you search, someone was selling a yank here in the classifieds (NIB) for a good price...a few of the LS1 guys in my area are using very high stall yanks and running high 10's with basic mods and nitrous...

also heard a few good things about the vigilante (sp) converters...

hey axxe

i have a The Converter Shop billet unit they list for an LS-1 on their site. it's my second one from this company and the first one lasted for a bunch of passes on mine over 4 years. mike yank does make one for your application. the vigalante also is a good one. how much horsepower do you make and how hard do you launch yours. if you're not running a lot of power you might look at the raptor from PATC. bunch cheaper and some guys are using them and theay work well. the is a company in canada with the same name, the cosknverter shop, that nolan says he has helped develope one for the syty' s. before trying something else, try contacting either nolan or tony and as for what they think of this one. as for TCS billet one that i use, waller, gerber, and sereral others are using this converter and have had good luck with it. check with nolan first about what they have developed. all of these are good choices. some people like one over the other but they are all top brands

Precision industries single clutch 9.5" billet converter.
ProTorque. Only two I'd recommend.

precision industries gets a lot of their parts from rusty at TCS. They also use a standard rear cover as does 99% of the builders out there. Precision does make their own front cover.. I like to get my stuff from the source not down the line... TCS will always be my choice.

They get some of their PARTS from there yeah. They also get some from Sonnax. The difference is in how those parts are assembled and the additional testing they do to verify proper operation is where the additional cost comes in. Of course, it's getting off subject. You wouldn't happen to sell those would ya?

blake get a clue buddy. stop babbling crap you hear from who knows where. even your buddy chris at ckperf knows precision builds crap and doesnt build near the quality conver that TCS does......do your homework.

I will not be using a TCS. I drove 2 trucks with them. I just don't like the way they drive. Morgan can back me up on this one.

every single truck and every single converter is goin to act differently. most of the problems with convertes arise from ppl putting them behind combos that either are waiting for another component change or have changed components since getting the conv.

the exact same conv will act very differently behind 2 different trucks.

you can take my conv which is up around 4k and put it behind a vw motor and it wouldn't stall 1300.

well then explain to me why i had to hit about 3 grand in reverse just to get out of my driveway and as soon as I replaced it with a REAL converter the problem went bye bye?

you tell em buddy. i did a lot of 'custom' work on that converter before i put it in your truck and it better launch like a mofo. it's amazing how many launches you got on that transmission isn't it considering how hard it launches :D and some guys can't stick one in and get it to run past the driveway. i've never been able to figure that out :-? must be your clean living

Maybe its just luck I dont know. I make sure everything cools down between passes and run F type fluid maybe that helps. Doing some tuning at 25 psi and it looks promising we'll see if it will hold it.
