Anything more have to be done before top engine cleaning our trucks other than disconnecting inlet pipe to TB and add cleaner? Do we have to disconnect anything more?
Thanks

Brian Green said something about cleaning the upper intake and EGR area especially, I want to do this but I don't know enough on how to do it. It sounds like a lot more involved and requires putting a new intake gasket on, I don't want to botch that up..

Typhoon and 89TTA owner Gino Rinaldi made a highly interesting post here: http://www.89tta.com/icclean.htm read up guys and let me know what you think! That one I can handle. I don't know if our W2A ICs will benefit as well to this procedure as the 3.8's A2A ICs but someone has to be the geniua pig!!

i used the aerosol on my truck...

took off the intercooler and sprayed directly into the butterflys of the TB...

the engine is going to want to stall out, so you have to keep some RPM on it.. you'll soon notice clouds of smoke pouring out the exhaust.

let the stuff sit for however long it says, then go drive and watch more smoke pour out...

you will want to change your oil and plugs shortly after... all the carbon and gunk has to go somewhere...

take notice before and after... look at the upper...it will be covered in the brown buildup before...after it will be shiney and you can see everything....

its not hard to take off the upper intake to clean it... bolts are located right next to the fuel rail.... i take my TB off and upper every few months and give it a good clean with TB cleaner... just be careful not to tear up the gaskets!

Adam, I would appreciate if you could give more info. I am a real dumb ass when it comes to stuff like this. Do I just need to unbolt the TB and unhook the vacuum lines, etc. and unbolt near the fuel rail, and then I can pop the upper intake right off? As long as I am gentle, I can clean it, and replace it and snug it down without having to replace the gasket? Don't skip any details or I will botch it up!!

As for the Top Engine Cleaner, next time I do it, I am definitely trying the aerosol. I tried the liquid way and rigged up Kwick6's contraption with the siphon straw and I felt it was executed perfectly, I stalled it out with the absolute last bit of TEC! I let it sit for 2 hours and got a paltry amount of smoke and noticed no difference in my KR or idle or anything but it did foul my plugs so I had to change those out right away. I don't see how sucking the liquid in through the brake booster will clean out the top of the upper IC, like the throttle body area or the EGR area, it would seem like it would drizzle down directly below the brake booster port and only get those areas. But I am by no means any type of intake flowing expert! Also my results were atypical; most people said they got volumous clouds of smoke, I don't know what the explanation is why I didn't. Anyways my point with the aerosol is with that, you have control and it would seem you can blast it into any area or direction you want.
