Top bolt on front diff???

I am droping my front axle to get the oilpan out. How do you get the top bolt on the diff out. Do you have to put a wrench up the little spot in the frame.

I have so far. removed the hubs and spindles, and halfshafts. I seached a little and most of the post are saying i am going to have to remove the steering crap as well to drop it down. Are there any major things i should not do or do to keep everything peachy. I am not going to rip into the diff itself i just need to get it out of the way. I have looked in my repair manual i have and i can find any specifics on how to get to the top bolt.

I am going to put new swaybar and control arm bushing in while im at it. and with it all removed a power wash, sand and some new frame paint would look nice to.


Any tips or info would be great

Remove the drag link. Unbolt axle flanges. Remove the passenger side axle and tube from the differential. Use an 18mm box end wrench in the slot to keep that bolt from turning.

Hey jim i actually found that 18mm wrench a few days ago i knew i would find it when we didn't need it. I can't remember what size we used instead of 18mm but u can get a standard size wrench to work on it if you don't have an 18mm

Yeah, I think we used a 3/4". Stuff is a lot easier to find when you don't really need it. :rotf:

I thought of something else that helps. When you are trying to get the passenger side axle housing out, jack up the lower control arm a bit on that side.
