Thinking about selling the Typhoon, asking for opinions.

I know I haven't had it very long, But I am considering selling the Typhoon we have.

I always wanted a Typhoon, a Syclone even more, and when this opportunity popped up ata time when we were looking to buy a truck or SUV I jumped on it. However I don't think this particular one is best suited for what we need.

What we need is a vehicle that my wife can drive everyday. I am not worried about the reliability or anything with it, it seems to run great now that a few things have been fixed on it. She doesn't care so much what she drives, this might as well be a plain jane 15 year old Jimmy as far as she is concerned. The only reason we have it is because I have this addiction for unusual vehicles. :)

What has me thinking of selling is that Winter is coming up, and I'd hate to see this thing exposed to Michigan winter roads. I can't store it over the winter. I already have two other summer only vehicles that get stored, so I have not place to keep it, and I can't afford to buy another vehicle for her to drive in the winter if I could.

If it were any other Typhoon or Syclone I wouldn't be as worried about driving it in the winter. But this is one of the three Raspberries, and I would hate for something that rare to just rot away.

On the other hand, it's not perferct as it sits right now anyway. It does have rust in spots, looks like the grill has been replaced at some point, and the mileage is high (130k) plus AWD would make for a nice Winter vehicle I would think.

What do you guys think? IS the Rasberry special enough to worry about saving? Should I sell it to someon who can store it, and restore it? Should I drive it over the Winter and then work on the restoration a bit next Spring?

Even though I really like have rare vehicles, at this point I'd really rather have a Syclone. That is unusual, but not rare enough to the point that I would feel bad about using it.

I Love My Ty's
Re: Thinking about selling the Typhoon, asking for opinions.

Since it is such a rare color I would not drive it in the winter. If only 3 were made no way. I would either park it and buy a old junker car to drive through the winter or sell it if I could not and try to buy another SyTy later when I had more funds to do so.Someone would love to own your Ty and you would rather have a Syclone anyway.

How much you want, and pics?

I know I bought it to drive, but I would feel better about driving a less rare one, especially in the Winter. The best thing would probably be to sell it and buy another less rare version. I don't feel like ihave the full experience of being a Typhoon owner yet.

I haven't really decided on a price. I haven't even really decided to sell it, though I am leaning that way.

There are a couple of pics of it in this thread;

Yeah, saw those. It looks decent in those pics. You said it has some rust spots though, and needs some "restoration", just curious to how much work it actually needs. I already have one Ty that's going through a frame off, just curious how in-depth this one needs to go.

Well I said it needs restoration because I would like to get it to the level of not being laughed at at a car show. I think it is in good enough as a driver right now, it looks really good from 10 feet.

But when you get up close there are a lot of things that could use improving. For instance the wheels look good, but when you get close the clearcoat is peeling on them. There are rust bubble areas in the body, not holes yet, but to fix it right it would probably need some patches welded in. It has been repainted the original color at some point, and the paintjob is not the best. It is a little orange peely here and there, and the front end color doesn't quite match, the grill has been replaced, and not painted correctly, etc etc.

Plus a lot of other minor annoyances. The I/C pump still isn't working, the A/C needs a re-charge, the steering is sloppy, trip odo doesn't work etc. Nothing that would stop you from being able to drive it, but it's not in tip top shape, yet.

Basically it is in good condition overall, but the 130k miles are showing.

1). NOT my color at all. 2). Way too many miles. Basically, the only thing that separates Ty's IMO from one another are year, color and regular production v/s prototype. If I ever acquire another, it will be an Aspen or a Garnet! Someone out there would buy this one though for the right price. I wish the seller the best should he decide to part with it.....lots of tire kickers out there.

Technically it is a prototype, its a first day of base clear coat paint, it was a test truck for GM new paint

I don't remember her taking those pictures...they are in my driveway right after it came home. I didn't link to the Woodward pics.

Trading huh? Don't your trucks have a disposition for attacking their owners?

OK I haven't decided to sell it yet. I am just looking for input on making a decision to either sell it or keep it right now. If I decide to sell it, I'll start another thread then.

A few people have been asking for a price, and honestly I haven't even decided to sell it yet for sure.

I am going to make time this weekend to take the pics. The interior is good with a couple of small exceptions, some of the plastic buttons have faded (fog lights, rear window defog, etc) the carpet looks a bit matted, not really worn out, but definitely no new looking, and there are a couple scuffs here and there a couple of the panels. There are no cracks or anything in the I/P or anywhere, the seats look great. The Typhoon floormats look used, they aren't worn out, but the TYPHOON lettering is a little hard to read. headliner is good etc.

The engine was running kind of rough when I got it. When I was looking I assumed it was mostly due to the dry rotted and cracked vacuum fittings (the engine bay was pretty original, all of the vacuum fittings were factory! Not much had been touched in there.) Once I got it home it ended up being several layers of trouble. I fixed the vacuum lines up, then looked at the ignition, and found the WRONG type of spark plugs, one of which had most of the electrode burned off. So it got all new correct plugs, MSD 8.5mm wires, and Conrad cap and rotor. then I cleaned out all of the gunk in the EGR port, and throttle body, and finally got to the biggy.

I ran a compression and leakdown test, and found a leaky intake valve. So I pulled the heads off and gave it a quick valve job. Now it is running top notch (for a stock truck anyway) compression is 145 - 155PSI on all cylinders, idle is smooth, acceleration is good. While I was doing the valve job I cleaned everything up, and repainted some stuff, so the engine bay looks pretty good.
