Thinking about race gas. How to tune?

If I go to the track on the 13th, I decided that I will be running race gas. I want a 12 damn it. So figured, Ild fill up with it the day before and spend a few hours tuning then top it off for the trip down. I am wondering how I should go about tuning for it? Should AFR's be what they normally are? Do I just add a buttload of timing?

You can lean it out a tad and add some timing. Just watch for knock

Most well-running trucks will take at least 20 degrees/20 psi on good race fuel.

Pull AFR back to 12-12.2 or so, and start ratcheting up the timing (to a max of 24, you won't see much gain past that). If/where it knocks, pull back a degree or two from there.

c16 > all else. You'll run more boost and timing on that than anything.

The big thing is to run the same gas that you tune on. 110 one place is not the same as 110 at another, unless they happen to be buying from the same distributor.

Should I be overlly concerned about blowing the motor jacking everything up like htis? I have a 50 mile drive to "test" this out and would hate to have to walk home you know?

Same rules apply... if you let it knock, you let it die.

If it never knocks, no problems. Can't say for your trans....

Let's face it - any time you go to the track with one of these things, a long walk is a very real possibility. That applies to stock boost levels as well.

Start small, increase timing/boost by little bits at a time. You'll be fine.

Cheaping out on the gas will increase the risk.

Wouldn't a alky kit be a better solution for you? I mean you won't have the cost of race fuel and you know it's a proven upgrade. Just thinking out loud

x2 I run 24psi with the stock turbo and never have kr with the methanol spraying.

Funny you should bring that up. I talked to JER yesturday and he advised me to do the same thing. Track is done after Saturday and I cant afford the $500 the Alky goes for right now. I did decide Ild just run down there and run it pretty much as it sits. Except for a little more tuning, still having trouble at 80mph even when I turn the boost down to 14psi :dunno: I will be getting my Alky in the spring. Plus, I called to find out what C16 costs, $12.00 a gallon. Considering the 50 mile drive I have to make and the fact Ild have to spend an hour or two tuning for it, I said no thanks. That would cost me around $300, more than half the cost of the Alky kit.

Differnce in the price is if you need a 3 bar map sensor or not. If you already have one then you don't need ours and its 305.
