Thermostat Replacement

I would simply like to replace my thermostat however having issues getting a wrench on the inner bolt that holds the thermostat housing down. What is the procedure for removing that bolt? What other components need to be removed so I can get a wrench on it? Thanks!

you might be able to use a 3/8's drive with a swivel socket on the end.

It’s a bit too tall to fit in there with the added swivel.

remove the vacuum line fitting thats in the way

It’s locked in there fairly tight. Nothing some penetrating oil won’t fix. Thanks for the tip. That should do it.

Don't break the bolt off in the manifold. It happens. If the thermostat is performing correctly, and the housing isn't leaking, perhaps consider just leaving things alone?
