Re: The hardest launch of my life! Vs. GT35R STi & modded Audi S4

Messed around with a new s4 last night. my wife and I were comming out of the movies. A guy in an s4 pulled up next to me. There were cars in front of us. when we both got in the open he was in front of me getting on the freeway. He stomped on it. I did to. we were already going 30-40mph. I was on his ass till we hit traffic. (90mph or so) Give it I was running 18lbs boost on 100oct. gas. he didnt start to pull on me till we were around 80mph. even then it was not that bad.

Nice kills Tookster. You still running your stock TC? If so, I'm tempted to go yank the 2800 stall POS converter in my truck now and put the stocker back in. Been nothing but problems since I put it in (slipping, no TCC lock) and I should be low 12's or high 11's with my setup. Oh yeah, Steven's friend has a lightly modded S4 that walked me from a 50mph freeway pull...those things are damn fast. He wouldn't race me from a light, though, go figure. I'll race him in my E55 from a roll next time, ha ha.

Jeremy,

Thanks. When I had my tranny built I had a custom Yank "Pro Yank Extreme" nitrous/blower LS1 10.5" converter built. It cost $900 www.converter.cc. They asked all the specs on my truck, and I told them 2700-2900, if anything a little on the tight side. They delivered exactly what I was looking for. My transmission build itself was a fiasco (from a non-SyTy vendor), but after a year of calibrating it myself, I got my WOT shift points down into the 4400-4700 range I wanted, something a well-respected SyTy Tranny Builder told me was impossible and cost me many months of wasted time (and money) over.

I actually learned so much that I could write a book on High Stall Converters and performance automatic transmissions for street/drag racing. I hope to write a website soon with all the information I've collected. My brain can only hold so much before I start forgetting this stuff.

What happens if you engage a TCC Lock switch and make a WOT run? Where are your shift points then? The real truth about your converter will be revealed then!

Jumpering the the TCC at the ALDL doesn't do Jack. I know what it's supposed to feel like when it locks and it never does. I replaced the TCC solonoid as well. With the old stock trans and converter, it locked positively and there was no slippage. I'm 90% sure I have a bad TC, but thanks for the suggestion. Your 60' time of 1.75 was slower than mine and I ran 12.7 with 1.7 60' times...the power is not getting to the ground. Will update you after I put the 9/11 in. Hopefully, that'll solve the issue.

The stock tranny and converter are always the best ones you'll ever have, aren't they?? :)
Can you email me one of your Datamaster files with the shitty converter? I'd like to use it as an example on my web site if that's OK?

Yeah, the stock setup was great until it broke :( I'll e-mail you the 12-second DM files.

We toyed around two more times and it was the same thing. He wouldn't race from a stop though. I ended up talking to the guy later and he was cool as hell! Turns out it's an S4 twin turbo 2.7L V6 DOHC 4 valve, with "K04 turbos" he just put on, and he's still tuning it. I'm telling you this thing looked like something one of my aunts would drive. Just an average looking late model sedan (but a real nice one). He said the same thing the STi guy did about his clutch preventing him from racing from a stop, and he mentioned he had seen my "mega launch" from behind when I was next to the STi and couldn't beleive it! He was nearly as excited as I was about it. :rotf: I thought it seemed like he had me beat from a roll, but he actually admitted that he couldn't tell who would win, and that we'd have to try a real drag race at some point in the future.
All in all, some of the most fun I've had on the street in years!
Thats pretty funny, we are actually having a friendly grudge-match with a fellow car club soon, and Im planning to be lined-up with a built audi s4. Its built similar to that one...ko4 turbos, computer, exhaust, etc. Its shocked a lot of people becaue of how fast it is. Ive never seen it run at the track, but it should be a really good race. My truck runs almost identical to yours.
Ironically, there was an STI out last weekend with a gt35r on it, looking for runs from a stop. Most STI's (including mine) like to run from a stop due to AWD. Unfortunately the truck is getting a few more mods and was in the shop. I would have liked to run that thing.

Great story Tooky....!!!!!

I love peoples reaction to a good boost launch!

My wife drive's the truck every day but I happend to take it to a buddy's house on the 4th of July this year. He runs a 10.40' nitrous 94 Camaro. He 60's in the low 1.4's. He asked for a ride since he'd never been in a Typhoon... And his friend wanted to come too... I said well.. it's no Camaro but sure ... what the heck. I drove around for about 5 min before coming to a empty intersection with 4 lanes and a red light. I said.. we'll I've only done this once so we'll see how it go's. ..
I brought up the boost to 6-7lbs and let off the foot brake.. all of us were pin'd in the seats and his buddy in the back lost his sun glasses into the back of the truck and almost himself.. lol..
My friend and his buddy were both like $*it that was %*ing nuts... and were laughing... He said I'd definatly take him off the line and he'd have to run me down... I said.. this thing's got nothing past 2nd gear so you'd totaly run my a$$ down in a hurry. Just funny to hear peoples reaction to being able to plant some tires on the street...

I'll post a real kill story when my wife tells me one ... Lol..

I just wanted to say thank you for that hell of a story, you are a very good story teller! And I could really get into it like I was there. I must say that I had lost interest and my way for a good while, but you have inspired me and given me that fire again for these trucks, I hadn't made time for Ty in a very long time! But I'm gonna make him top priority again. Your story is truly inspiring and motivating. Thank you so much!
