The Grease Pit ...

Well, even though my name is WyoSyclone, we're temporarily living in Oklahoma. Before we moved here my wife insisted on a tornado shelter... well, then the discussion was do we put it outside, or in the garage?? :dunno:

Well, as luck would have it, I decided the garage was better (have you ever tried herding cats in a tornado? :rotf: )

So, let me present to you, my grease pit!!

multi usage, cool.... lets hope it only gets used as a grease pit and not as its intended use.

ya know, its odd to see pics like this being that Ive lived in FL all my life. Yeah, we have tornados, but not on the same scale you see in your area. I dont know of one single person who has a shelter in/around their house. Cellars are weird to me as well, seeing how you cant really build any underground structure due to the sugar sand and sinkholes.

ever get the urge to fill it with plastic balls and dive in?

I tried talking the wife into filling it with jello and her jumping in... in her birthday suit... got slapped... :shocked!:

Yes, we had a tornado scare here last week and the first thing I did was go to Radio Shack and buy a Weather Alert radio.. comes on automatically if the weather service thinks you're about to get destructed... a very good investment!

And its a nice place to hide from the wife in case she plans on coming in to the garage and taking you away from the syclone :rotf:

Until she closes the door and parks on top of it. Make sure there is lots of beer down there... you need that man's milk to help you survive a wife scare like that.

I have lived in Oklahoma for 8 almost 9 years, and never had a shelter or anything, I guess we are just lucky. My little town is actually between mountains, like a big bowl, and people say that is the reason for quiet weather, other than just scares. But I bet that the shelter makes it alot easier to change your oil now, alot quicker.

My fiance lived in Oklahoma when i met her. i was amazed to see businesses that all they do is build and install tornado shelters. A WHOLE yard FULL of dozens and dozens of tornado shelters!

Re: The Grease Pit ...

My Question is this, and assuming the Sy is garage kept, would you pull the SY out in the Horrible, possible hail and high wind so you can access the shelter? If no tornado came and the Sy got all beat to shit you will hate that pit!

:stupid: I was thinking the same thing. You might not have enough time to move the truck to access the shelter.

Plus, it's a Syclone. So unless you've got the purple wire mod, you've got a 50/50 chance it will start when you need it to. :rotf:

Re: The Grease Pit ...

Having lived in that area for a few years the shelter is a good idea. I also wonder if you'll have to put the Syclone out in the weather should you have to access the pit. Hope you don't have to make that decision!

Re: The Grease Pit ...

Luckily the pit is far enough towards the rear of the garage that I can pull the Sy to the front and still have room to crawl down the stairs with a cat carrier, oh, and the wife :D .... but then the tornado comes and flips the Sy upside down on top of the shelter
