Test ECU

Hey everyone, I need to know if there is a way to test my ECU with an ohm meter to see if I burnt my comp or just some wires.I did the ultimate jacka$$ think and put aluminum foil around the fuse and got that distinct smell of burning wire. So I have the truck 100 miles from me but I have the ECU with me. So I want to see if there is a way to tell if the ecu is toast. TIA

Re: Test ECU

should be able to take the cover off where the chip is and if it smells burnt it's done. not a real big deal as long as you didn't hurt the chip cause the ecm is fairly cheap, under 100 dollars

Re: Test ECU

Ok nothing smells burt or looks it. So the problom was everytime I would hit a bump or shake the wiring harness under the dash going in to the truck either the truck would shut down or blow the ECM B fuse. So now I guess I have to start searching a gremlin?

Re: Test ECU

Found the problem. The wire from the ECU going to the injectors only had 8v going to it while it is plugged into the ECU, if I unplug the wire voltage jumps to 12v. so I made a jumper to the fuse box, and the damn thing started after 5yrs. So my question is why would that be happening? Also I want to run a thicker wire gauge to the ECU + dont remember if that went to the back of the alt or to the fuse box.
