Drivers side head. The factory one isnt very acurate. Get an aftermarket one.

The passenger head isn't suppose to have a sensor in it, perhaps that is it. It going to leak fluid when you pull either of those out. I wonder if someone had the head off your truck misassembled it.

it is buried you can hardly see it on the passenger side , and the plug on the drivers side does not look like it wants to come out

That sucks man.
Goddamn engine shop plugged my coolant return line on the block and my oil feed line to the turbo on the drivers side and there was no way in hell that thing was coming out without the motor being pulled.
Forunately/Unfortunately, the motor had to be pulled after the rebuild anyways and was done correctly this time.
If you can get enough room, you may be able to get it out, but it's going to give you one hell of a fight in order to get it out if it ever does. Don't know what suggestion to make for ya. Sorry.

Does the sensor plug have one wire or two
it will be better to install a Autometer gauge !!!

Old thread, but I need to replace mine. I'm planning to order one from Rockauto. How can I tell if I'm buying a temp gauge sender, not ECM temp sensor? Part n:eek: or something?

Thanks!

Replaced the sender with this one: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=87358&cc=1164451&jnid=450&jpid=8

The gauge started working, but won't go higher than 130°F in normal running conditions. Already changed the thermostat to new one (180°F), but no change. Today I checked the sender resistance when cold (8 kohms) and with warm engine (6,8 kohms). Those are much higher readings than the ones given in shop manual. The manual says that gauge's cold reading equals 1,4 kohms and half-way reading (180°F) 250 ohms.

Wrong or faulty sensor or what?

OK, no worries then, thanks. It says "100" in the bottom and "260" on the top so I thought the quarters of the scale would be 40° each. Guess not.
