Teaser alert.....

Re: Teaser alert.....

3,570 lbs is not that light, IMO. There's a lot of steel in a C3. Including the body itself. And not very much aluminum. (completely off-topic: The C4 has 750 lbs of aluminum in it. Over 800 by 86 model year).

I liked the Monza (or Vega) idea. Somebody here has a 76 Cosworth for sale, possibly without engine. 1 year too new for the Smog Nazis, though.

I don't care for the styling on the Monza. I do like the Vega idea. Maybe a wagon.
I used to have one that my grandmother gave to me. It had the 4 cyl. with powerglide. I beat the snot out of it doing neutral drops going around corners in it.

My only concern is they they are well known to have rust issues around the front window & other places. And I wonder about getting parts for them?

Re: Teaser alert.....

Cool! Thanks Dave for that info.
It is sitting on my engine stand. I haven't had much time to do much more than work & sleep lately.
I would like to start removing exhaust pieces & have them coated. When time allows, I hope.

Re: Teaser alert.....

I was searching for some stuff and came upon this thread again . Have you made any progress on it's install yet ? I was glad the pics were still up .

It's sitting in my garage on a stand. I removed the headers to have them coated & so it would fit on a trolley stand.
I have been slowly working on motors for both trucks, but it always seems that something else comes up (taxes, kids hobbies, Daily Driver maint.) that requires my $$$$ rather than the Sy or Ty.

I did some measurements & with the headers that came with the motor there is no way it would fit in a Sy/Ty engine bay. I'm reluctant to do any changes to it (install RPM splayed valve headers) due to the uniqueness of the motor.
I'm still leaning towards a '66 or older C10 when money & time becomes available.

Re: Teaser alert.....

Sweet ... a ram air 4.3 turbo

Did you find out what car it came out of? ---

The switch by the oil filter is for the fuel pump. Early C4 clusters use a calibration on the sender that is different from the 'hybrid' sender that we are more familiar with on SyTy. The fuel pump pressure switch is separate from the gauge sender on Corvette until at least 1989.

There are several details like this in your pics that hint that this engine was used in an engineering study in regards to production feasibility. It appears that it was running in a street-able, complete C4. As pointed out earlier, race cars don't have Air Conditioning. Or automatic transmissions.

Really cool find.
I sent an email a few minutes ago to the contact info on the website & here is what I got back:

Good afternoon Rick.

Thank you for your interest in SVI!

Yes, we did a 4.3L single & twin T/C - CAC feasibility study (Y Car & "other" targets) for GM.

What specifically would you like to know?

How did you find us?

Re: Teaser alert.....

Great thread, I really like the C4 and the C10 idea for a vehicle platform. You can get those C4's for cheap in good condition too.

Re: Teaser alert.....

It's cool to see this thread come back to life. I've wondered from time to time, what happened to this engine. I just re-read the entire thread. Including all the suggestions as to a vehicle to put it into. I have a new suggestion, that wasn't made two years ago when this topic was being discussed:

How about the obvious? Another C4 Corvette. You have most of the pieces, and you know it fits.

I honestly didn't even think about the obvious.

The only issue I see is, living in a state of anti-SMOG fanatics, I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get it registered with a turbocharged V6.
I don't think anything pre '76 requires SMOG check any longer, but everything later does?

Re: Teaser alert.....

I'm also with Dave, I vote C4 transplant! Talk about cool. I'm sure a few corvette mags might even be interested... who knows? Cool stuff though indeed. The thread was a good read!

Re: Teaser alert.....

It will be sold for scrap when he dies.

Nothing going on here.
I'll make sure my wife or kids post my junk for sale here first.

Yeah, nothing going on here since I'll have no disposable income for awhile....
Tax man got me for an additional $4k this year. Plus my daughter started driving this year. Gas, insurance added maintenance.

Re: Teaser alert.....

I like the idea of a proto-type recreation. Maybe try a thread on one of the vette forums to see if anybody else has some info.. Sounds pretty sweet.
