Teaser alert.....

Re: Teaser alert.....

I sent a pic to Mike Lee this week & he was like "WTF?" He couldn't figure out what was going on with stock rockers & head bolts in those heads.

I'd never seen that on canted either.... only megabuck rockers.

I assume these are big block rockers?

Given the turbo's position, a Y or F body makes sense, or a race car. But, as I said, any race app would out-spin those rockers.
(EDIT: Duh, race cars don't do power steering and AC, either)

It's really cool. A nice restore paint job to its original look will be way cool in a Sy.

You're gonna want a bigger turbo than that, anyway. :)

Re: Teaser alert.....

The more I look at this, the more it has GM raceshop written all over it.

My fuzzy memory recalls a conversation about a canted valve v6 motor running around the DPV... I'll have to see if I can find some old mails.

Re: Teaser alert.....

During an early 90's tour of the GM tech center, they brought out a bunch of cars for us to look at. One was a 3rd gen Camaro with an LT5 engine in it.

They also had a 3rd gen Camaro with a 4.3L V6 turbo. I don't remember much about it, but for some reason I don't think it was PAS/SyTy based.

It could have been one of those projects that Jon Moss and Marc Mcphail were working on at the time. Like the cool side pickup, a full size regular cab pickup with a short box and a FI 510ci big block and I think it was AWD.

Re: Teaser alert.....

Dunno if any of this applies.

Engine: Engine: GM 90 degree V6, 209 CI, 775 HP, Warner-Ishi Model RX9-L turbocharger with 20 pounds of boost, GM cylinder heads. Early in the program, the V6 turbocharged engine was adapted from the Chevrolet V6 cast iron block. Displacement was limited to 209 cubic inches. The block was a Chevrolet over the counter item. The 1985 and 1986 blocks varied slightly; the 1986 block was redesigned for a one-piece rear seal. Internals and cast aluminum heads were over-the-counter Chevrolet off-road production items. A Warner-Ishi Model RX9-L turbocharger raised maximum horsepower to 775 HP at 20 pounds of boost. Famed engine builder Ryan Falconer ultimately squeezed 900 HP then a purported 1100-plus HP out of the little V6s for Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick later used a 184 cubic inch V6, and eventually a 366 cubic inch V8 in the final versions of his cars. The two independent cars used 366 cubic inch V8s initially, and the last Corvette GTP chassis at one point sported a 10.6 liter 4 cam Eagle V8 as it went conquer Le Mans in 1990. Ironically, it was independent chassis 710-01 that was the very first Corvette GTP to complete; and independent chassis 8811-01 the very last to complete as a Corvette GTP.

Re: Teaser alert.....

I've been doing a lot of searching & I came up the Ryan Falcon's name. And they are fairly close too me.

I was told they pulled the pan (some well known engine builder, the name escapes me) & measured the crank stroke (no actual dimension given) and said it was a short stroke, something that would allow it to spin ~ 12k.
With it being a std. 4.3 production block, that ain't gonna happen for long.

Here are a few more pics. Everything, IC, tubing, gauges, harness, etc. is from the vehicle the motor was in.

Re: Teaser alert.....

the console with the gauges looks like it is from a vette or f-body.. i could be wrong though.

The Console with the gauges looks like it would replace a 2 din radio, which were pretty common back in the day.
