TCI controller Q

I have the older tci controller, and the tps isn't right. It reads 12% at idle and 85% at wot and confirmed that senser is reading proper and good by datamaster. I looked around and scanned through the online manual and couldn't find any info. Is this something I need to just get over or can it be adjusted somewhere to be correct? I'm slowly going through the settings to make adjustments, but want to make sure it reads right before pushing it.

That is correct, I believe in the older TCI unit there is a threshold setting for WOT % and closed throttle.

The % comes from the fact TCI uses 0 volts for 0% and 5v for 100%. The TPS sensor in our truck and most cars never reaches the extremes. Closed throttle you will see about .4 volts or so, and WOT 4.5v or so.

With 5 volts being in theory 100%, 18% is telling me at closed throttle your at .9 volts. I don't remember what the GM specs are but your might be within tolerance. Does the engine computer show 0%? If so your fine for that.

Re: TCI controller Q

Thanks Jeff, ya thats what i figured. Datamaster said it was spot on so I was hoping there might be a setting to adjust to compensate. Oh well, it said that WOT was 85% so I'll set lock up at 75-78%. Any other pointers you got for me while I'm in there? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do not set your WOT shift points to the same RPM. Vary them by 100rpm at least or it will cause it to do weird stuff (WOT shifts at extremely low rpms) I found that out the hard way when mine was shifting weird and thats what TCI told me to change. Worked fine ever since.

Yep shift points must be different some, otherwise controller commands a 1-2 shift, before the shift happens it will see the RPM is set for the 2-3 shift and command that shift also. So you can end up with a 1-3 shift before the trans has time to actually shift.

I try to do say 1-2 @ 5k, 2-3 @ 5100, 3-4 5200 or something like that.

Do you want it to lockup at WOT? There are parameters for WOT -vs- rpm, all the part throttle stuff is MPH based. So you have MPH based lockups also.

Cool I will make sure I keep that stuff in mind when I go to make changes. Thanks guys
