TCC Shudder.....

Well I have read about this in others posts....for example http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31805&highlight=tcc+vibrations

I have the same symptons...crusing at 45 and 1500 rpms I start to get the vibration.I step on the break rpm's go up as the truck must be unlocking ?? and vibrations stop. From the reading I gather that the T/C needs rebuilt. What if you live with the shudder? Here is a great readme on it also. http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/a/aa061701a.htm
Just looking for some input as always...How would things act if all was "NORMAL" the rpms would stay low, but no shudder ???

there are severl things you can do to help this issue.
has it always done this or is this a devloping issue? if it's a new thing that just began to happen then your tcc clutch is going out and should be replaced. it will soon give out and send junk into the tranny causing more problems.

if it's always done this then you can use some red lubeguard as this has been known to cure the shudder in some installs.

Did you mod the PR valve, use a larger boost valve, and remove the checkball from the input shaft when it was installed like it's supposed to be done when you use a perf converter? if not then you can do those as well and you will have a much happier trans and conv and thus owner/driver.

Well I think it has done it since I got it. I have only put on 1500 miles. Most was the drive home from Cali. So maybe its just more noticable ?...So from what i gather a new tcc shall fix the shutter ? or am I not reading that correctly !!!

how was it installed? was all I listed done when it was installed? with only 1500 miles on the conv there is nothing wrong with it, easiest thing to do is try the lubeguard. then start with the items I listed and go from there. I have said this before but I'l say it again, the 9/11 has no spring center like most other converters do. thus if you have ever driven a stick shift car with a solid center clutch you are experiancing the same type thing. your conv needs more line pressure to hold the clutch at such low speeds without chattering.

How many miles are on it? That'll tell you. TCC's won't live forever. It may just be time for a new one. Also, if the fluid is synthetic, it can cause this. Change the fluid and just use regular old dexron III(no synthetics or blends) and lubegard's "instant shudder fix" and see how it behaves. Works well, but you have to have clean fluid to start with. If you can't find it around where you live, I can get it for you.

No ideal on milage....but you are correct. I was given a bottle of REDLINE synthetic for the fluid that it uses..So i guess I will drop off at the tranny shop for a FULL flush and TCC change to start there.? ??

sounds like you might need a new TC rebuild. that will get you a new clutch.

Well this week tryin to work in a complete flush with new tcc and I guess there is a valve shaft that sometimes the oring letes fluid by ?....anyway another $250 here we go. I notice as long as I keep pressure it goes in fine but If I slow down and it d/shifts and then comes back into OD it shudders.

the input shaft has a small O ring that seals the TCC clutch hub to the input shaft. I have seen them heated beyond site and they still work. the o ring just gets hard and shrinks a bit.

waller could you elaborate on these items a little??

i have the exact same problem, and my new 2800 yank converter just got here.

i want to do this right the first time.

i have replaced the boost valve on another tranny, so i know what this is and how to do it, i just need to know the approite size to use.

also am i to remove the checkball on the input shaft, but reinstall the checkball retainer??

thats what my astg 700r4 manual says to do on "heavy duty applications"

im also assuming pr stands for pressure relief valve??? if so how do i proceed on modifications to it??
