TC won't lock up, do i need it??

well, was thinking about this for a few weeks back, and today i found my time stamp/ and was wondering.....am i wasting time on the 1/4 mile because my TC won't lock up WOT? or should i not worry about it, and hit 10's easily with better traction next time?

1.826 60ft
7.351 1/8 @ 97.69
11.384 1/4 @ 120.27

the reason i'm asking this because i feel i run out of gear at the end of track, without the TC locking.

Do these times make sence? or am i loosing time in the last 1/8?
maybe try to see if i can lock up earlier and see if will remain locked?

I have mine lock at about 100mph. Your times look right to me. Are you sure its not locking? At the hp levels your at I hope you have a good multi disk convertor, or boom boom!!

What rpm are u getting at the end of the 1/4?
2yrs back when i was running 12's i could feel it shifting when pushing it into OD, i have not felt it once this year

The numbers look good :). The 1/8th mile numbers are about 75% of your 1/4 mile ones. Your 60' time could be a *little* better. The rule of thumb is for every .1 that you drop in your 60' time equals .2 in your overall E.T. My truck 60 foots 1.7's all day even when I had drag radials on all four. Locking the converter vs. not locking it up lowered my E.T.s by .2 of a second back when I was stock turbo. My buddy who has a VERY loose converter, drops .5 when he locks his (yes, half a second faster). If your truck behaved like mine did, you would be running high 10's. However, I have never ran as fast as you and every truck is different so YMMV ;)...

Thanks, i came to the conclusion that the 0.1 at the 60ft =0.23 in the 1/4.
The track hasn't the best grip, and screamed the tires for 2 sec.

thanks for the tip, still would like to know What RPM you get @123mph with the TC locked

Do the maths... torque convertor is locked, final drive ratio is 3.42 so if you know your tyre diameter, you can work out how fast it has to spin to travel at 123 mph = your RPM.

you're still at school, you do the math!

123mph should be about 5700rpm assuming you have stock size tires.

I'm about 5500rpm give or take a few. (stock tach) I will look over some of my logs when I get a chance. I do not race in od just in drive. If your convertor is locking I don't think you should need to be in od.

Dont mean to poke in, I always run mine in OD (STOCK CAM) down track locked as soon as it hits 2nd. Never any issues with tranny.. I use a 3400 Precision 3 disc. generally it ran 1.7 60s

Re: TC won't lock up, do i need it??

I could be wrong, but I think even some of the Big Guns race in drive. Frank AutoAddictions went 130+ mph in drive. I think Alex Qbnkiller also raced in drive. By no means were these a stock cam engine, but it does show that it can be done with stock gearing. Frank or Alex, if im wrong please correct me. I guess it really has a lot to do with the engine build, tc, tire size, etc whether you race in drive or od. Even if your manually locking your convertor with a switch, the only way to tell if its really fully locking is to look at your logs. I am no tuner, so Nolan has been doing this for me, he found my billet Circle D convertor had a lot more slip than we expected untill it locked. You need a serious convertor to lock up under full throttle on a true 10 sec truck....
