TC installation

OK, I spent the last hour trying to find an old post that talked about tc installation. I remember there being a post about putting a washer between the TC and flywheel to get proper install depth of the TC into the trans. Anybody got this info? I can't rembember who wrote it, but I thought it was Blake. It seems to me that putting a washer between the TC and the flywheel would increase the shear forces on those 3 little bolts. All I could find was this post and it doesn't have the detail I remember.

Anyone got a good picture of a tc properly inserted into the tranny and bolted to the flywheel?

Thanks,

you should only put a washer between the TC and flywheel if you have more than 1/8 in between them when the TC is fully pushed back into the trans. if you have 1/8 in or less then you dont need the washer.

Mike who? What username does he post under? Any idea how long the board archives posts for? I'd really like to find that post.

Thanks,

I'm usually too long winded on this stuff so I'll try to make it short.
The two little "cutouts" on the stub of the TC will perfectly mate to the two tabs on the rotor of the pump inside the tranny.
Lubricate the TC stub with transgel or tranny fluid and fill the TC with tranny fluid and let it sit for about 1/2 hour so the fluid has time to penetrate the clutch material.
Lubricate the o-ring on the end of the input shaft. Now carefully install the TC so as not to tear up the o-ring and slide it over the input shaft while carefully turning the TC. You will be indexing the splines on the input shaft as well as the splines on the stator. Now you will feel the TC kinda "bottom out". Take some kind of straight edge across the bellhousing surface that mates with the block. Take a ruler and measure the distance between the straight edge and the flat mounting tabs of the three tapped plates that the TC bolts go through.
It should be at least 1 inch. If it is not 1" then you must slightly pull back on the TC and rotate it and push it back on again until you really feel it slide in. You will know what I'm talking about once you measure the distance as stated above. Let me know if you need more.

The gentleman's name was Mike Lee from ARA Motorsports(sorry Mike if that is the wrong business name)
