I'll get you guys a VIN. So everyone knows, if you have any need for information on your trucks, I'm a design engineer at General Motors. I design electronics, but with a VIN I can get any info I need. I work at the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI . As far as colors and such, the Typhoon is before my time here @ GM. I think I was 16 yrs old in 1992 when his dad brought it home. Anyways, if you get me (1) VIN number of each of the rare colors, I can look up total production count for that color by the VIN number. More or less, I can tell you how many of that color was made. I can also print out every single aspect of the vehicle right down to who was the final line tester when the vehicle was built (the persons name.) So, I have access to all the info in the world, other than how much it's worth today. I can tell you that the person whom bought it purchased it on an employee discount and paid nowhere near sticker. I'm tempted to just offer full sticker and see if he takes it, but I don't to get screwed. I have no intention of driving this vehicle. If anything, it'll get put up again for long term storage.

Sweet! Do you have any contacts to the former PAS employees or know anyone in your division who worked on the SyTy project?

Ive spoken with Kim Neilsen a few times and have contacts to a few others.

If you in your spare time:

1. get info on all the marlboro syclones
2. get the color breakdown for all the typhoons for 92 and 93
3. get any information that is readily available via files or pictures
4. Is there a hidden collection of SyTy Parts that GM still keeps that is not public

Yeah, I know a few people but most have changed divisions. Alot of the engineering has been shuffled around lately due to lack of $. The guy that owned this truck, is the original clay model builder of the prototype. He also clay modeled the Grand National and alot of other specialty cars. His son now has it, who is one of my friends. I didn't know the original owner until I became friends with his son.

1. I'll see what I can come up with.
2. Give me 1 VIN number from each color so I can do that. I can't just type in "Typhoon" because the search is done by GMT platform number. I just need a VIN of each of the colors.
3. What kind of information?
4. Of course. There's brand new motors sitting there left over from production. There's also 2 more Typhoons and Cyclones sitting in the wharehouse that are untouched. They keep everything. Football field after football field of wharehouses full of cars, parts, ect.

Also, last I heard, they were thinking about reintroducing these trucks, but they have enough problems as it sits with the current platforms these trucks would be on. So, that got squashed. I heard that today from a project manager when I was trying to find out what this truck is worth.

I'll look it up Monday. How much do you want to know other than color count? I can pretty much tell you where every part came from on that truck, and who put what where at what time and date.

1. sweet
2. EVERYONE GIVE THEIR VIN AND COLOR COMBO NOW!
3. Anything...small or big
4. Oh sweet Lord. Pictures. I must have pictures. anything.. everything. :boink:

(Make sure you spell Syclone with an S, not C...tough crowd here  )

My guess for one of the Typhoons is the first 93 Pilot Production Truck, a Wht/Wht as seen here:

930001.jpg

The other Typhoon should be the last 93 Production Truck, a Blk/Blk as seen here:

I know GM still stores the PPG Syclone which makes appeareances at Woodward and also there is one of the Syclone Challege Trucks left (wht/gry) that was used for promotional events for the dealer.

I was lucky enough at our SyTy Nationals 2000 to get GM to bring out the PPG Syclone, and the Syclone II and the Typhoon II prodjects, which I dont know if your familiar with. I was able to drive the PPG and the Syclone II

Word was that due to costs of production, that a future SyTy was just not going to happen.

Bah, they don't want to hurt C6 sales is what I got from project engineering. If they released a new SyTy, it would:

1. Be less than a C6.
2. Be slower than the "flagship GM sports car" (C6Z06).
3. Be faster than the Dodge SRT-10 Viper truck
4. Be slower than the SSR.
5. Be cheaper than the SRT-10 truck.

Too many conflicts. They could build it if they wanted to, but it would only be problematic for marketing.

We need VIN #'s for Royal Blue, Teal, Radar Blue, and Raspberry too. Am I missing any other rare colors?

This truck:

is sitting in a musuem right now at the HQ (Detroit Renissance Center). Saw it yesterday. Right next to a Yenko Camaro. They sometimes move cars from "the wharehouse" to the RenCen for people to see when they come to the HQ. They keep atleast 1 of every model ever built in "the wharehouse."

Bahama Blue.

Lets see if this unicorn really does exist. Problem is... because it is a unicorn truck, there is no known VIN. Dont know how far that will take you.

I have alot of photos and some unreleased video footage I took of this truck.. especially the underside. I know I have photos that a very select few have copies of and no one has ever seen. I was floored when I was given the opportunity to drive the PPG Sy. Even though its one of the worst running trucks (it sits most of its life, cant expect much) I didnt stop smiling for weeks. I think Im still one of a handful of hardcore SyTy'ers who has driven this truck and lived to tell about it :D

He means that it is a color that supposedly was used on 1 Ty and nobody has ever seen it.

We are uncertain that "Bahama Blue" was a production color, and possibly just a myth..... or possibly a truck or 2 was painted this color. From what Ive read/heard, its supposed to be sort of a sky blue color.

Mentioned above a few posts back, you will see Radar Blue / Radar Blue. It is known at this time that only TWO were produced for this color. I believe there were only 2 Raspberry / Raspberry as well.

You have some work ahead of you.... you just stumbled across one of the biggest grayareas for our trucks and the most asked question. You now have everyone on edge if you can pull this off :)

Well, after I run all the color VIN's, I'll do a platform check. That will tell me exactly how many were actually made for the platform, then I can add up the official color count numbers and then trace down the extras if there are any. Everything is done by platform number. For instance, the platform # for the new C6 Corvette is GMT-1013C6. That's the identification for all C6 corvettes regardless of color, options, build, ect. So, I'll run one of these VIN numbers. Get the platform ID, and then get an actual count. Then I'll get color count totals by VIN number. If it doesn't all add up, then there is a "unicorn" out there, but I can trace down that "unicorn" VIN number and find it. Then, I'll be able to say what it is, color, ect.

Not really. About an hour and a calculator. I'll be able to tell you all the actual numbers. I don't know what you think the #'s are for total production, but I'll be able to tell you if any additional were made right down to prototypes that weren't assigned a VIN. Some are prototypes that don't get assigned a VIN and are used for testing purposes only. I'll be able to see those also.

You are my hero.

Syclones Total Production - Between 2995-3000
Typhoons - 92 was 2500 and 93 was 2200... GM is supposed to own #0001 (White) and #2200 (Black) for 93

Heres some info to help as well for color codes:

This is more than likely 100% true. They always keep the first one that comes off the line of each vehicle and put it in "the wharehouse." I'll see if I can go see the ones in "the wharehouse" and find out their numbers.

BRING A CAMERA!

You have no idea... once the SyTy production run was done, they were spit on and thrown out to be forgotten. Speaking with Kim Neilson, it was a project brought up to see if it could be done for kicks, it worked to some degree, and it was gone just as fast.

The only reason why they still have a place in history is because of the owners who care enough about these trucks who fight to earn the respect we always deserved.
