Syclone vs. GTS Viper

So the other night my friend and I decide to go for a little cruise in the Sy and see if we can cause some trouble. In my home town of about 110k population, there are very very few fast cars. Not a lot of people modify there cars and the ones that do, have a 15.5 sec honda, and if you ask them it's "fast". So to make a long story short, my frined who was riding with me(who owns an 87 turbo regal which goes 12.1's,) and I pretty much run this town when it coes to the street racing. However, there is a turbo Integra that has gone 12.7 but he already saw the back of the Syclone several times so he doesn't bother anymore. So going racing here for us is pretty stupid, nothing fun to race. Just kids in a Z24 cavalier who think they're fast. So we pull into a parking lot along the strip where everyone cruises and just hang out to see what goes by. Nothing cool, or fast. Just punk kids. All of a sudden a 2000 or 2001 GTS viper drives by. Instanly the sy is in reverse and the chase is on. I weave a little through traffic to catch up and here he is, next to a Z28 camaro that I have spanked several times as well. The kid in the camaro saw me behind him and was kind enough to slow down and move over giving me access to the Viper. He also wanted the good view of what was about to go down. So I get next to the viper and give the gas a quick burp of the throttle just to know the viper that I'm interested. He looks over and starts to laugh like I'm wasting his time. I stab the gas again real quick to let him know I'm not kidding. I put my window down to ask if he wants to race. Mr. I'm-Too-Good-For-You in the viper quickly puts his window up and proceeds along side me with a big grin on his face as he drops in to 2nd, hammers on the gas, and squeels the tires away from me from about a 35mph roll. I catch up to him and he nails it again. I'm thinking, OK, he'll actually race, but I want him from a dead stop, we all know why. Sure enough, the light in front of us changes and we both come to a stop. I do the rev-in-neutral trick to build brake pressure as we're stopped. As the apposing traffic lights turn, I start to build boost. I can hear the viper bringing his RPM's up as he is about to do this. Light goes green, bye bye. I leave him by about 3 cars easily as my Nitto drag radials bite into the our cold Minnesota asphult. By now I'm a car-length beyond the far sidewalk and he is crossing the near sidewalk sideways in a cloud of loud exhaust and burning Michelin's. The Viper is catching up but I stay in the gas as we approach the 110mph range(yes, this is a 35mph zone) but by now a 1/4 mile race is over. I get out of the gas at about 115mph and by this time the viper is at my back bumper and comes by my hard now that I'm out of the throttle. Sweet, I think Subaru states it best, "the beauty of all-wheel-drive." I caught up to the viper after we slow down and he turns off and runs home, probobly scratching his head trying to figure out what just happened. Needless to say, that was really fun. I get a kick out of beating a $85,000 sports car with a pickup, especially one that pretty much stock. Sucks to be him.

Nice kill man! You state that your truck is kind of stock. Could you please give more details about the mods you have done???

Keep up the good work!

Good kill, but I hope you are one with the fact that with a 105.6mph trapspeed, that Viper passes you loooong before you hit 115, with a halfway decent driver.

My mods are:

Walbro 255HP fuel pump
3 Bar Map
Dig chip
Dig wastegate spring
Drag radials
slightly ported stock intercooler
slightly ported stock turbo
TB airfoil

Thats it, on a 106,000 mile truck. I have to give the thanks to Dig. He is a miracle man when it comes to tuning a Sy/Ty.

This only holds true if the viper hooks. You have to remember, I'm live in central MN and it's cold here this time of year. It got UP TO 38 deg outside today. My truck hauls in this weather and even if you put John Force, Jeff Gordon, or on of the DaimlerChrysler engineers behind the wheel of the Viper, good luck getting it to hook on 35 degree asphult.

Yes, I live in the St.Cloud, MN area. For those of you in town here, or in MN for that matter, feel free to give me a call. I'm always up for havin a beer and shoot the shit about the Sy/Ty world. My Sy is now at my parents house for the winter. My roomate here also has a 92 Black/Black Typhoon. I wish I still had my truck here, it looked cool with the SY and the TY side by side in the garage. Anyway, I gotta fly. Hopefully I'll here from some of you soon. We should try to get all the MN SY/Ty guys togather for a winter "get togather and drink some beer". Talk to you guys later.

Way to go bro! Laying the smack down on a Viper has got to feel good :D I'll bet the guy when home and jumped right on the Internet trying to figure out what the hell he just raced, he he. Those run low 12's stock if the driver has skills so hats off to you.

You should have seen the two Viper 650's that showed up at BIR running stock rubber, they ran consist high 13's - low 14's.

There was also a good article that you probably already read about the super cars, where they did true street testing and they were running 12's, this goes for all high powered cars with radials, they freaking slow.
