my grandpa gave me his 83 s15 that he has owned since new. i learned to drive in this thing and now that its mine i want to freshen it up. i really like the look of the syclone and was wondering where i could get the body cladding and bumpers and what not. not looking to badge it as a syclone just the look. it will be AWD using my stock borgwarner from my tahoe as well as some other goodies i will be replacing on my tahoe.

thanks for the help.

Re: syclone replica

You can get the cladding...many people and Sportmachines have it. But it's going to be expensive, as you probably know.

Good idea, but not worth the $. First, you have to get all of the cladding (around 2 to 3k), and then all of the brackets.
Curious, how are you making it AWD?

Re: syclone replica

i'll have to do some more research but i know the silverado's are active if you unplug the disconnect. but if that don't work all i need is the passenger side housing piece from a AWD front diff. from what i have found the astro and bravada and syty's have them. then i can run my stock tahoe t-case which is also AWD. i was also concidering the cast iron zr2 front diff and do the same thing to it.

basically its time for upgrades for my tahoe so the 5.3, turbo and trans will come out and go into the s15 while the tahoe gets bigger and better stuff.

Re: syclone replica

I wouldn't do it.

There are a lot of better, faster, more cost effective ways to make your S10 more fun to drive.

Re: syclone replica

ok, i have to ask. what is the factory cladding made of? a good answer seems to be hard to find and it appears as though its steel.

wouldn't do what? the clone or the motor swap?

i'm pulling all the stuff out of my hoe any way so why waste it when i can put it to good use.

Re: syclone replica

i was stationed in pax river for 3 years. i'm in jax now.

ok so i called sportmachines, holy crap!! $6,000 for everything to convert. so maybe i won't be doing the sy body. lol it will still be an AWD street machine. i'm just going to have to do a different look i guess. maybe just go all stock body with a classic tag on the back and be a nice sleeper.

Re: syclone replica

i would search for a Ty, that would be a great swap..get one with blown engine and the normal symtons for a low price and put that juice in there!

Re: syclone replica

that sounds like a great idea but this s-15 has a lot of sentimental value to me. I went from car seat riding to driving in this thing. Now at the age of 30 its mine. i'm looking forward to building it with my sons.

Re: syclone replica

The sentimental value justifies the cost. Just know that it will most definitely cost more than buying a real Syclone. However, on the other hand, other than the bonding time you'll get with your sons, it also gives you the opportunity to build one that would be more durable and more updated (4l80 trans, D&R beefed up front propshaft, coilovers, hydroboost brakes, zq8 steering box/waller shaft, walbro fuel pump, etc.) Good luck with your project

Re: syclone replica

Find a rust bucket Sy with all the cladding and drivetrain intact. Can be had for maybe $3500-$4500 if you look hard enough,

Re: syclone replica

If you are willing to repair the cladding it can be had for much much cheaper. Im thinking about selling my extra stuff, cheap.

thats a nice list of parts, right on track with what i was thinking. not sure what the zq8 steering box is though. i love my hydroboost brakes on my hoe. i need to do some reading on where to snag the parts from for that.
