While driving home today I could smell something then the truck just started running terrible
So i pulled over and opened the hood and could see some smoke comming from backside of the engine near the coil area and then i saw smoke comming out behind the cab drivers side.
Tried to start will start if i keep the gas at pressed to the floor but will not idle and cuts out like crazy.
I did check the fuel pressure by checking the relief valve on the fuel rail and it seams to have pressure..

My truck is Totally stock
Can anybody help?

Check the basics first? Broken vac lines, burnt plug wires, burnt dist cap? When was the last tuneup done?

What did it the smoke smell like? Chemical (wire insulation, burned up coil), or oily?

the smell is kind of burnt wire smell
I just changed out the coil didnt help
Changed out MAP didnt help..

Ughh... probably down at the bulkhead connector. Disconnect the battery - that could save you from a fire.

Take that bulkhead connector loose and start looking for damage. If there was smoke you should at least see toasty/crispy wire insulation.

It may take a while to find it.... just take your time and be thorough.

Just by chance. Do you have an Amp for your radio. The positive leed that goes From the battory to the fire wall, up and around the Back of the motor, under and up through the back of the cab could be causing a short. Someone with less than half a brain wired my SY that way.

Friends are also the ones that try and convince you to hit the fat girl at closing time, don't listen to em.

I think you will find it difficult to get a fuel pump to smoke as you describe, bathed in fuel and captive in a sealed tank.

There are numerous relays and wires on the firewall. I'd start methodically ruling out one by one.

Installed fuel pressure gauge Great Pressure Changed out Distributor and still nothing..

I think i have to take it to the dealer..

Can't you take it to GN Northwest? I would trust thoes guys long before the dealer

Im thinking about taking up to GN Northwest but its kind of far from where i live i have to see if i can get a trailer and take it up there after the holidays. im going to change out the computer tommorow hoping that will get it to run..

All the wiring to the back of the truck run down the driver side. If one of the relays by the distributor shorted out it could have put too much power to the back and burned up any one of those wires. Check the relays then trace the wires back. check for burnt ground wires to the frame first. There should be one neer the fuel filter. Another one by the rear of the gas tank. And one more behind the rear wheel next to the rollpan. Also check for hard, crunchy wires. It would be easier to trace wires if you pull off the bed.

Why dont you stop changing parts and start diagnosing? Are you even getting spark?
