Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Nice!
Where's the pics of the -8 Brodies?

Coming today... Stay tuned...

Paul, Are you building that in the house ?

Not in the house... In my dads shop room @ their house... Jenny would kill me if I asked her to build a motor in the house... lol...

I recognize the hand writing on the pistons. :D Please double check that we got the valve reliefs in the correct cyls before you put the heads on. I'm 100% sure we did, but checking costs nothing.

Yer supposed to do the metal-making before you begin to assemble the engine. Not after the pistons are in it. I hope you're being careful.

Were good on the valve reliefs... Double and triple checked them yesterday... The threads were nice and clean... We were just verifying they were good to go... What very little came out of the holes were vacuumed up... Davey Z was helping me... So we know what that means....

You know what they say about assembling an engine in your living room.......

Looking good Paul.

Thanks Mike... Its the pop's shop @ his house:tup:

I see an impala ss lower dash on you couch you own a b-body?

Yep got a nice 96 SS... Thanks...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well I got some more work done today.. Installed both heads and my ATI damper.

Here are the pics...

Thanks for the pics, awesome!
Are those straight plug holes, or angled?
Too hard to tell. They look straight to me.

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Straight plug..

Are you using stock exhaust manifolds?

If so, check for clearance of the spark plugs to manifolds. Clearance as needed, start grinding, but don't go over board.
My friend has the same heads & stock manifolds, but he did not do any grinding for more clearance. He has burned a few spark plug boots ,but then found some boot cover (fiberglass?) or ceramic boots, it's been a while can't remember for sure.

Nope, got me a set of RPM stainless ones. This picture is from earlier in the thread but thought a picture is worth a thousand words

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Well got some more stuff done:

I liked the Vasplieon idea behind using a spring loaded belt tensioner on the drivers side accessory bracket but was weary of the cast aluminum being to week to support the tensioner.... So.... I had the old magic man whip me up a billet backing plate that has offset holes to get different degrees of belt tightness and a tapped hole for the tensioner bolt. The stock accessory bracket was machined for the backing plate to fit inside of it and was temporarily tack welded in place to check for proper operation... Still need to do some fine tuning with different length belts before having the unit fully welded together. Well enough of the description here are the pics.

Enjoy...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Recently got my 4L80e back from my local performance trans shop.. Had to fix all of the George Blake F-ups.... Now the trans is ready to go and should do nicely behind my build.. Had a 32 spline output shaft swapped in for the 27 spline one that was in there and ditched the steel TC adapter bracket for a nice Stout74 billet aluminum one. Torque converter is also on its way to Precision so they can re-stall my multi-disc Vigilante to my current engine specs... Also with the help from DaveP, went through my x-fer case, replaced the bronze thrust washers and some seals, cleaned everything, checked all bearing, the chain, and viscous clutch operation and installed the new 32 spline input shaft..

Enjoy...

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Looks amazing!

So you now have a stock 32 spline 80e output shaft and your transfer case has a different input shaft? I'm going that route as well.

What stall are you getting for the combo?

Great work!

Thanks Mate!!

Forgot to mention.. Yep, I have a 32 spline input for the x-fer case now..Will update the above post..

As for stall who knows??? When I talked to them on the phone they said that they would most likely need to tighten it up due to my build being much more powerful than before. Before was a 3000 stall but was designed for a mild cam, vortec headed, 60 series turbo build.

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

Damn, I had that same idea. Wasn't quite sure how I'd make it work.
Looks good!

Re: Syclone Gut Swap

After doing a bunch of tinkering I finally found the parts that will help me get the full potential out of my Holley Dominator setup. I wanted to run the Holley DIS (Distributor-less Ignition System) which includes 3x2 coil pack assemblies and lets you remove the single coil and distributor.. The system requires a cam and crank signal to work properly and will give you the desired sequential fuel injection and advanced ignition system operation.

First I tried a 1x cam sync distributor with the Holley 58x crank wheel and found out that the external crank wheel had too much stuff going on down below... So.... I bit the bullet and contacted Michael Noonan from EFI Connection and he set me up with his new cam/crank signal setup.

The new billet timing chain cover has built in LSX cam and crank sensors so no external crank wheels are necessary. Also included in the kit is a billet 58x wheel that mounts inside the timing chain cover and a modified Cloyes timing chain setup that provides the 1x cam sensor with needed data.

I also got the needed Mallory billet oil pump drive assembly, Holley EFI 3x2 coil packs, and all needed wiring to interface the system with the Dominator..

All the goods:

Stay tuned... Hopefully it will work well..

See ya,
