My damn Sportmachines log in won't work so I will have to wait till I find another gallery to load the Pics.
But heres what happened. Last year his truck was Black, & much less powerfull, & he did not finish. In 2000, he raced in, & won the Luxury Seden Division on the Peak with a 14 mins, 34 secs. I think he was driving a Cadillac STS.
This year I was not even aware he was racing again. The problem was, they did not know what class he was going to be in. He started in the Exhibition class, but later decided to go in to the Pikes Peak open class. He placed second with a time of 12 mins 12 secs. The winning EVO 8 Lancer ran a 11 min, 52 secs.
It was said over the radio that "he spun as he crossed the finish line." (which was later found out to be un-true) I wanted to get some pictures, so I talked Dad into waiting till the wrecker brought Shaun's truck down. Eventully all the fans were gone, it started storming, & then all the racers were gone. All excepts Shaun's team, cause he was not back from the top with his truck. Eventully the only people left on the Mountain were us, & some Pikes Peak cops.
All of Shaun's friends told me to go to there motel later to get pictures. So when I got there, I found out they were leaving at 4 am. So I figured I should take the pictures now or never. The light sucked, But most of the pictures came out.
I talked with the guys, & Shaun's truck overheated about 2 miles from the Summit. The truck bogged, & would'nt spool the rest of the way to the top. Yet he still ran a low 12 min.
The truck is amazing. 673hp, at 9 psi. Everything except the cab is fiberglass. It was thought that the cladding would fall off, so Brain Coats hand built custom fiberglass front, & rear fenders. The cladding, & the fender are one in the same. From a distance, they look like seperate peices, but when you get close, you can tell its all one fiberglass peice. Furthermore, on a regular Syclone, the cladding sticks out about 1 inch, on Shaun's truck its about 3.5, thats to hide the 30 series tires, on 17s, both front & back. The rear window is plexey glass. It has a full cage. The door consist of the shell, nothing else. The interior, is racing seats, & instruments, but the Stock Syclone badge was still on the glove box. The tail gate is mostly a some type of screen, probley because the tail gate was still metal. The radatior was re-located the the rear of the bed, with 2 monster fans pulling air through at low speed. The entire front was used for the intercooler. It also had a 2 inch cowl hood.
The truck was built by Brain Coats Motorsports, of Las Alamitos, CA. Coats Farication is know for its many titels in the Baja races south of the border. Its a street legal truck, with CA tags 6A92638. The official sponsor were BF Goodrich, Activision, JVC, Brian Coats Motorsports, & Sign Tech Race Lettering. The only un-official sponsor is an obvouis one, Palmer Snowboards.
They did'nt really tell me much about the motor, & the 3 pictures I took did'nt come out real great, but it was scary looking. Well, I'll post the pictures as soon as I can log into Sportmachines again.
Oh BTW the Syclones speedo went to 180, Damn.
