Sy won't turn over...won't hold charge

My Sy is sitting in the garage and it needs to be out on the street!

problem: For some reason the battery won't hold a charge over 12 volts (new battery, alternator isn't terribly old). I think it may be a short in the electrical system somewhere but wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues. Over the summer, i had to charge the battery, to make sure it would be over 12v (to kick on the fuel pump) to start. Well about 2 weeks ago - i was coming home from a Friday afternoon stroll in the Sy and it died about 3 miles from my house. Called a flatbed tow and they couldn't jump it.

Any possibilities? Could the alternator be faulty? Any suggestions?

I read in a post on here it could be a PURPLE wire that runs along the trans

After you changed your battery have you verified it will still not hold a charge? When you turn the key does the engine even turn over?

We need more info about what exactly happens when you try to start the truck. Also have you tried any fixes yet?

If it won't turn over at all. First make sure that you have a good charge. Post back with resolts. Could be a few things depending on what you find.

Re: Sy won't turn over...won't hold charge

The truck will "turn" but won't start - for one, the fuel pump won't kick on...because the little charge that the truck has...isn't over 12v, more like around 9-10v..which leads me to think it might be a short?

i haven't tried any fixes yet...came here to see if anyone had a similar issue in the past, before i started messing with it.

If your battery is not charging. Take the alternator to auto zone or another parts place and make sure it is good.Or if you have a voltage tester. Check to see what voltage the alt output is.

Is the battery in the stock location? Are the cables stock?

Sorry if you don't understand why I need to ask. I've stepped on my dic too many times assuming the problem truck is in stock configuration. To be told in post #50+ it has a "battery re-locate".

stock location, stock cables w/ new connections.
