Sy with problems

New to the site and of course have questions. I'm looking at a Sy last nite. Body/paint/interior nice. Was a stock truck but owner wanted to go faster. Left the engine stock but added A2A, larger turbo he thinks is a T-6. Garage was to dark to see any numbers, 40# injectors, adj fpr, adj boost control and others. Truck has been sitting for some time now. Starts but dosen't want to idle very long. Oh forgot a burned chip by some one unknown to him (can't remember). Will rpm, around 2000/2500 or so in neutral but not cleanly. Sounds ok motor wise, no knocking, black smoke or unwanted noises. Since i'm new to this type of tuning my first thought is mismatched parts/wrong chip.

I don't mind projects but I really want this as a driver. Ran good be4 he made the changes. Says he replaced most all the sensors ect. He could not get it to run with 3 chip changes. I guess I could take it back to stock and start over or ?? Oh and he changed from a 2 bar map to a 3 and then back to a 2 bar. Same results.

Any thoughts anyone? I'm not afraid to try an Ultimate chip if I could find one or code59 which would be foreign to me but you have to start somewhere. As I said a project. I just don't want to get buried in it. Ideas? Thanks. Dan

Everyone is going to tell you to get datamaster to see what is going on. and they are right. ALso, sounds like you do indeed have mismatched things going on. See if you cant figure out what chip is in there and who burned it. That will tell you a lot Im sure. Is the seller a member here?

You need to know what chip is in there, as it may have a Kenny Bell KAAA Boom chip in it.

No I don't think so. I don't think he ever joined. Nice guy.

Don't think is a KB. Think he said he got it back east. Same guy burned a chip or two for his stock Ty. Said it worked good. Dan.

Code59 and TunerPro with the Moates parts as described on www.code59.org, and you will be in business. It helps a lot if you can get a hands-on lesson from somebody who knows how to use it. Once you start, you'll be hooked, though. You'll be driving around everyday, datalogging, adjusting things, smoothing out part throttle response, and reliable idle, and trying to get better MPG and more HP without KR, all at the same time... Then you'll find a place that sells E85 and you start over because you never get KR and you get a lot more HP. It's addictive.

Re: Sy with problems

could be a cheap fix if bought at a good price, could be a mess.

If I was "new" I would put stock injectors, chip and 2 bar in it. If the motor is stock, throw a stock turbo on it just to get it running right. From there decide what direction you wanted to go.

Sounds to me also like someone throwing random parts at it to fix it -vs- correctly chosen ones. For example 40# injectors never really worked in the syty world, I've never seen chip sold for 40's that was worth anything either.

Re: Sy with problems

Well I solved the problem by buying 93 Ty #1631. I talked some more with the owner of the Sy and he still wants to sell so if anyone is interested I could give more info on it and get some pics or what ever. He's only about 3 miles from me. Sy # 1071. I think it can be saved.

Oh btw thanks for all the replys. Dan.
