sy or ty?

Re: sy or ty?

I second what everyone else is saying, if you drive it hard you are going to break something. It all comes down to whether you are willing to put in the work to fix what you break and spend a great deal of time working on it, than it isn't the vehicle for you.

I own a relatively stock truck that only has 27,000 miles on it and it is currently down for a few minor things (afpr {original fell apart}, 255lph walbro fuel pump {might as well replace it at same time}, i need to pull the motor and replace the oil pan {read dumb ass previous owner took it to a gm dealer that stripped the drain plug}). However, i dont drive mine more than a few thousand miles in a year and have access to a family friend that owns a shop w/a lift and all tools necessary to do about anything automotive so I don't mind much the things that need doing.

I think it has been said before that a sy/ty can be daily driven, but you aren't going to be out there racing the thing or driving it hard.

Maybe look into something like a buick grand national that seems to be a little less repair intensive.

Peace

may want to consider your height...ty's have much more room that sy's...and long trips in sys are not fun...i know, i have drive accross the country more than once in mine. its not how they run, they are just not comfortable for long periods of time.

the last three daily drivers have been reg cab trucks so I'm good with that, even if I am 5'11". I'm definately zeroing in on a sy. as far as driveability I am mechanicly inclined so hopefully I can hold my own. worst case senario is I keep it for a year and can happily say I owned another long time loved vehicle and let someone else have a turn. after all if a few thousand people all bought these trucks and never sold them no one else would ever get a turn to enjoy owning one, right?

I have never broken my ty sinc I have owned it. I don't race it regularly, but I do drive hard sometimes. My friends ty has had the trans replaced, but it is over 100k when he bought it, and it sees more wot time than mine. I have found as long as you maintain the truck and make sure you keep up on maintenance, they are okay. I have a race 2wd with ty parts that I have broken, but it was aftermarket add ons that made it break... My 2 cents are that if you maintain the trucks, and not hammer them every stoplight, they will be good to you.

I agree with Sleepy. I have had my Ty for 2 years, it has 100K miles and has minor mods, and I have had no trouble. I keep it well maintained and I don't drive the $hit out of it every chance I get. But, of coarse, the more power you build with them do to mods (more boost) the more likely you'll start to see problems. As for Sy or Ty, I don't think you can go wrong with either one but I prefer the Ty for the space.
