Sy 768 Resto

I bought Syclone 768 a couple of weeks ago from fellow syty member who was selling it for a friend. It came with a Gm crate motor that came out of another truck. The body was in pretty rough shape. No rust, but the Vegas sun is murder on a one coat paint job. Plus it had some cladding issues.
So I decided to do a "resto" on the truck. starting with the outside in... Here we go!
Day one

Decided to pull everything and give it a good scrub down.
Yah I know, it looks like a yard sale behind me.....

Back in the garage and ready for more clean up before the Por-15

I will post some more pics tomorrow...

Cool. I gotta pull the bed on mine to do some cleanup too. Winter project.

Looks like the front had been POR'd already? Solid mounts?

Great to see one restored to niceness. Take pics of your chalk markings, if you can.

I also bought a second radiator core from the junk yard. I cut a bigger hole on one side with the intention of fabricating an A2A set up.

Actually it has been done for a while, but didn't get a chance to post the pics. I brushed on the Por-15.... Works great on flat spots, wants to drip on any vertical areas..

Same experience I had... I got some runs when I tried to do the trans crossmember.

I did both sides of the fenderwells with it, followed by high-build primer and a low gloss black.
Turned out real nice, although it's not the same black GM used.

Dig, do you have any idea what % of gloss was used. I have a few products that provide different percentages. When I get done working on everyone else's cars, I will do the Sy and am curious what I will find when I get there.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

I just got my intake back from the powder coater. They did a Cr@ppy job. Bubble and lots of over spray.
I painted the red... Hopefully it will draw attention away from the powder coat. :(

It has been a while since my last update, and lots of progress to report. Finally got the motor in..... Wow!, it was an adventure to say the least.

The engine that I have came out of another truck. For some reason the motor mounts would not line up enough to let the bolts go through. After fighting with it for literally two days straight, I realize that the motor mounts on this engine belong with the other truck, and vise-versa.

This is us scratching our heads trying to figure out wtf!

Anyway, we changed them around and..... success.

I have been getting parts back from paint, and the cab got primer over the weekend... Color is awesome! I will post some more pics tomorrow...

we found this out the hard way, there is a techique to powder coating a cast aluminum piece such as an intake since it like to gas out under heat. the only proper way to get it to turn out right is about a day of solid slow heating to baking temperature and then cooling to relieve all the air pockets, then reheat and let it soak for another day, then it's time to coat.

the proper way would take so much time the price would be ridiculous. we are building a car with a ramjet 502 and the owner lives in HI so he wanted a polished look without the need to repolish it due to the harsh salty air, so we had it cleared. $2500 later we had a decent piece. but it took a while bickering with the powder coaters to take the time and do it right, also required one stripping, repolish and re clear coat.

just an FYI to anyone thinking about doing this to their intake manifolds.

BUT it does look pretty sweet black with the red syclone 4.3 turbo
