sy#2283 being brought back from the rats

Well, i just got sy#2283 up here from Tuscon, AZ. and now the fun begins.
For some backround, #2283 was owned by my grandfather and then my uncle after he passed away a couple of years ago. It hasn't run in 4 years because my grandfather became i'll and rats got into wiring :( There was a nest under the hood when i opened it up, no rats though :squint: I would have loved to have gotten a little bit of pay back :squint: Especially since they made part of it from cactus needles, some of which are still in my fingers
It's been sitting in basiclly a 3 sided carport since then. There is a bit of work ahead of me to get her back up to speed, but there's only 24743 miles on her and i'm the thrid owner. interior is in good shape, seats are like new, dash just needs to be cleaned of the glue from the velcro stickers from cover.

The paint and cladding are oxidation city. Hopefully i can bring them back to at least acceptible condition. But new paint will definately be on the list if i can ever afford the type of paint job these vehical's deserve.

There is also a little damage to passenger side fender cladding at wheel well. Hopefully it can be repaired, may need some help with this one, as well as the other problems. I have a feeling i'll be here quite often :D

i have some pics but no clue as to how to post them. i guess i cant add attachments yet, being a nOOb and all :rotf: understandable i guess.
anyway, i'll post pics as soon as i'm allowed to

Re: sy#2283 being brought back from the rats

Thanks, i would like to post some pics to show what it looks like now.if there is anyone willing to do that for me i'll e-mail some pics. i'm not able to post pics on here yet.

i already did a brief inspection and the wiring harness may be good.

vacume lines  but i would replace those even if the rats hadn't chewed them up.

the under hood liner is toast, rats had a field day with it.

i also noticed on the back side of a/c compressor the piece that the hose's tie into is broke at the 90. the hose that's broke goes to the condenser. it looks like this can be replaced , i hope , without replacing the compressor.

does anyone know if that is the case?

i plan on getting new plugs , wires, cap and rotor a.s.a.p.
going to change all fluids in next couple of weeks, which leads me to next question. I plan on changing oil and coolent again after only 10 to 20 miles and was wondering if there is a good cleaner i can add on first fluid change to clean out systems.

any help would be appreicated

thx

if there is any one in colorado springs that has some experiance and could come over and give some pointers, i'll supply the beer

Wow, this post is 8 years old your from the Springs and I am somehow just now seeing this? I could have helped you out a lot by this time. How bad is the wiring? If it is a small amount I would just fix it but if it is a lot I would seriously look in to replacing the entire harness. I know these trucks like the back of my hand and if you ever need any help get in touch with me.

he replaced the harness years ago. i work with Kevin (sometimes). But i thought it was the only place the pic seemed to fit.

Random/weird shit-I was DD'ing the Ty for a while, and this guy (Kevin) who works for another electrical contractor who is the fire alarm foreman, and im the controls foremans, we are simultaneously working on 2 jobs together, one day im sitting in Ty eating lunch, he walks up, and we are talking about whatever thing that had came up on the one job, then he says,"Oh yea, I gotta Sy at home". So I tracked down his old post.
He "may" come up to HPR this sat for the replay of the Colorado Outlaw.
