Supercharged Typhoon??

My friend has a supercharger for a 4.3, with a bracket that would fit very easily on my typhoon. I have seen plenty of twin turbo 4.3's , 454,s and 350's, but has anyone heard or seen a turbo and supercharged syty? I just want to know if it is possible without much work, because the thing fits almost perfectly, right next to the altenator bracket. If not I will just get a bigger turbo instead. :D

Thanks

How bout it?
I haven't seen one. But a bigger turbo would be tons easier. The supercharger and turbe combo would be a tuning nightmare. But that is just my :2cents:

a friend of mine just twin charged a Cooper S...he said tuning wasn't that bad. As long as you are able to work out some small bugs yourself, i'd say go for it and be differnt. Otherwise, sell it to me :)

Before my 4.3L expired I considered this very option. I was going to go about it a little different tho.. I was going to go with a ROOTS (eaton) style supercharger off ebay as they are dirt cheap...

Mercedes makes a compressor clutch for the eaton style blowers that could be activated (or in my case DEACTIVATED) with an RPM window switch. I had intentions of getting a LOWER stall convertor and then have it shut off once the turbo was spooling. I was hoping for the best of both world, low end and top end boost !! There are plenty of check valves available too that would prevent the blow back through either unit.

Using a screw(eaton) type supercharger in theory would allow you low end boost and when it becomes inefficient (upper RPMs) then it could be shut off reducing parasitic drag. Doing this would utilize more of the RPM range on an engine (4.3L) that doesnt have alot of RPM range to play with.

Its not as easy as what you are talking about doing but then again, in your case, I assume you are talking about a centrifugal supercharger which acts like a belt driven turbo.

I say go for it if you want something different, I dont see the benefits personally using a centrifugal supercharger tho, no low end grunt from them. I would just go bigger turbo myself.

Alot of people cant think out of the box on this site so do what you want and keep us updated if you DO decide to do the conversion, screw the critics, they are too scared to try anything new !

only difference between people thinking outside the box and people not.. is that the people that think outside the box have projects that last many many years and see very little progress..

those of us that don't think outside the box have at the very least a rare truck that they can drive and enjoy (unless its blowed up)

Im not raggin on ya, I love your idea, I thought about doing it myself awhile back with a 4wd blazer.. but i am quite happy with my stock 4.3 at the moment. :D

the semi truck that i traded for my syclone has a detroit diesel 6v92 engine and a 13 speed transmission...6v92 stands for 6 cylinders of 92 cubic inches each...strangely enough, this engine is a 2 stroke....great motor....it sounded like an old timey 40 foot bus in a third world country and had a top speed of 60 mph downhill...what i'm getting at is that motor had a 671 roots type blower and a turbocharger ....if i understood it correctly, the blower is used just to start the engine and spool up the turbocharger....

there is a lot more to it than that. Comes down to current knowledge person has, and how much time they have to devote to a project. Not everyone knows alot when they dive into a new project. I sure didn't/don't and it made me go slower than most would - and my build wasn't all that out of the ordinary in my opinion.

there are plenty of people who aren't thinking outside of the box that don't have trucks that run, or struggle with them.

??????? I might be slow here but I've been looking for an inexpensive
supercharger for my t.b.i. 4.3 for a while now and I can't find
a company that makes any. And I know several companys made them
in the "past".

I dont think yer ragging on me, I've heard it all before anyhow, at this point its all water off a ducks back..

In regards to the project, get laid off from your job, look for another one for 8months and then take a $20k+ cut in pay and still make your bills on time then figuire out whats left for a project..

Granted, some of it is related to motivation, but priorities have changed as well, anyone that knows me knows I had one shitty string of luck from late 2002 all the way through late 2004. There were months that I didnt even look at the truck due to the 5 funerals I was attending (driving 12 hrs one way to each one), looking for employment etc. I will admit that it hasnt gotten completed as soon as I would have liked either, no doubt about it. However, priorites have changed as well too. Initially I was going to build a 9sec AWD monster, now I am shooting for something reasonably quick that can CORNER. I dont plan in drag racing much with the truck, its too expensive and costs more and more for less 'seat' time. Its funny how priorities change over time. You dont know how many times I have contemplated just selling the whole thing and walking away from it, but I am NOT a quitter and would ultimately always regret that decision later in life. Anyone that has half a brain knows that rebuilding a 4.3L for a SyTy application atleast built RIGHT and to handle power isnt cheap either. I guarantee you, you cant spend $2100 (what I paid for compete 28,000mi LS1 motor with harness and PCM), on a 'built' 4.3L and have the same kind of reliability on PUMP GAS at 600hp.. Its just not gonna happen people that say it can happen need to get drug tested. Anyhow, peace out, back to the original topic at hand, I say its your truck, do what you want. Screw all the 'purists' !

Thanks for all of the help, for now I will go with a bigger turbo, but whenever something happens to the truck to where it is undriveable then I will try it.
