Re: Supercharged SyTy?

There is someone on the forum that has a turbocharged AND supercharged syclone with a 6 speed manual trans if I remember correctly. I think he goes by " T-56" on the forums

There also used to be a list member with a supercharged Syclone, but I don't know what became of his truck in the last couple of years.

Re: Supercharged SyTy?

I'm wondering if someone could fab up a bracket and things to use a procharger type unit with the stock W2A intercooler. Or better yet, 2 A2A units, one for the turbo, and one for the procharger. Have one on each side of the block or something.

IMO SC is not needed. With our automatics and a properly stalled torque Converter/turbo our tucks have minimal lag and produce tons of torque. Adding SC would just add completity and I images it would also creative more inefficency.

it would also freak out the stock computer

I think it could tuned for, the stock calibration probably would need quite a bit of tweaking to get the most of the setup.

I don't understand how it could be of any benefit? If a person wants more power, just add a bigger turbo. I mean, the turbo's already make more psi than can be used, so again, I don't see the benefit. Centrifigal S/C's only make boost with rpm, which is in no way as good as a turbo, and roots blowers make max boost all the time therefore taking away economy to speak of, and screw type blowers are pretty much on the same lines as a roots. If I'm inaccurate, then someone please set me strait.

I can see why, they use the S/C for the low end, and the turbos for the high end. That is exactly what the new VW's are using. Looks pretty simple on paper, there is a bypass so after the engine gets out of the low end, and the turbo is spooled up, it bypasses the S/C and feeds directly from the turbo. Looks pretty neat IMO. But for our trucks, I think you are totally right, if not just for complexity issues. I do like T-56's engine though

Re: Supercharged SyTy?

That's T-56's mutant, although the turbo isn't on the truck anymore. Apparently he plans on putting it back on and leaving the SC. All I know is I want a ride once he get it running :D

Re: Supercharged SyTy?

I want to supercharge ours someday, proably a small roots blower and about 8psi:tup:

I see how it is now!!! I go out on a mission and you girls talk about me behind my back!!!

Yeah, the S/C on mine was a bad idea implimented to fix a worse problem originally. The first owner of my truck slapped some off the wall huge turbo on it that was trimmed for a big truck and ran into tons of turbo lag. This was compounded by the manual transmission. The blower helped the problem but was still a bad idea IMHO. However, it looks really cool sticking up out of the hood.

I've grown attatched to the thing and have decided to work around the S/C since I'm not looking for numbers at the track. It's going to be a daily driver.

B4 you throw a S/C at a SyTy, think long and hard about it since you will probably slow the truck down when you put it on unless it's done by a guru who knows a Helluva lot more than I do.:2cents:

Re: Supercharged SyTy?

T-56, I like your mutant, lol.

If I was going to SC a sy, I would use a custom twin screw and get rid of the turbo. Not that I'm concerned about mileage, but you can get excellent milage out of supercharged engines. Look at some of Chuck Mallet's corvettes, they are getting over 30mpg.

Re: Supercharged SyTy?

wow, that looks like hell to work on lol

adding a turbo in front of a S/C simply creats more boost, it's like staging turbo's, since they don't make PSI, they simply multiply the avaliable air, since normal baro is about 14.7 psi, if the nominal pressure increse of a said turbo is 1.3, you'd end up with 19.11 PSIG in the manifold, however if you series the turbo's, the first pushing 19.11 psig into the intake of the second, the second will be putting out 24.85 PSIG into the manifold. This is how pulling tractors/desiels push 100+ PSIG into there motors!
once the mainfold PSIG is up on T56's truck, the turbo basicly shuts off and it runs off of the blower i'd imagine, i've never seen it nor do i know fully how it works but it does look sick
