BLACK92TY
It's never enough
Last year I ditched my L35s for Vortecs. Ditched the stock pea shooter turbo and added a 20G14cm 60-1 as well as 3" downpipe/exhaust. Got a TT chip to go with all of it. Was still running the stock torque converter so I figured there'd be some lag with the 20g. Ran a 12.44 @ 109.5 with a 2.0 60ft. Couldn't brakeboost more than 3-5psi at the track. Stock turbo I could boost 10-12psi outta the hole not problem. Sixties were around 1.7 with Nittos on all four. No cleaning the tires off beforehand.
I really figured the converter was the missing link. So i went to my local guy who used to own a pretty fast Ty back in the day. He installed a 2800 stall for me that I got from a member on here. Literally made zero difference. That was exciting.
Then I figured maybe my external wastegate needs some adjusting. Spoke with Synapse and they suggested my gate was probably cracking open too soon and to throw a stiffer preload spring in. Did that, no difference.
Afterwards I thought maybe my timing is too retarded. Checked it. Timing was at zero. Then I figured I might want to add some more timing. Did that, truck actually didn't like it. Ran even worse so I set it back at zero.
Also changed the TT parameters on the chip for initial boost. It's paramater 5 and I think it's set at 100. Added 10% no difference. Just still lags like crazy.
Checked vac pressure and it was steady 18. Checked vac lines to wastegate on the crossover no cracks/pinches. Even replaced boost solenoid. No difference.
What I'm wondering is if my turbo could be on it's way out? I've literally only had it for like a year and rarely drive the truck. The boost was starting to trail off later on in the day. Like it would climb up to 20 and sit but then it was dropping down to like 15-16ish after some hot runs. No smoke or oil or anything though. Just not sure where to look next.
Rest of the build
AFPR
60lb injectors
Mild cam 116LSA wanna say like .487 lift
Sportmachines lower heat exchanger
hotwired ic and fp
Ractronix 340pump
Tranny cooler
EGR delete
ABS delete
AC delete
Bored .030 over
Forged JE pistons
Forged Eagle H beam rods
Splayed 4 bolt main caps
