Strange tranny problems/ help needed?

ok guys,

i just picked up the new re-built 4L60. The thing shift real hard and nice in 1st and 2nd gear. It also runs strong basically all the way through the gears.

However. I was doing a little testing in the other night. Cruising about 60mph in Drive I simply punched it, full throttle. Upon doing so, I felt a bam, bam, bam, (like the truck was missing or something or it was getting held back and didn’t want to go forward) so I immediately released the gas. I thought, “this is odd?” So I then tried slowly pressing the gas towards full throttle, and the acceleration was smooth.

I then repeated the process, but this time I did it in OD. Again, bam, bam, bam, so I once again immediately let off the gas. I then slowly pressed the accelerator to the floor and the truck took off smoothly.

Now at this point I don’t know if this is a tranny issue, or an engine issue? The engine has been running great (as far as I know), but it was the tranny that I just had re-done, again, that makes me question it? Not to mention, this was like the 1st time I gave the new tranny full-throttle, that’s why I am skeptical to what the problem is.

Can anyone provide me with some troubleshooting tips; at this point I am baffled? I appreciate any help, because I am going to go back to the tranny shop next week so the guy that built it can inspect it and I would like to tell him about this possibly potential problem.

Thanks!

Are you getting any codes? What you are talking about almost sounds more like a detonation or overboost fuel shutoff issue. Is the truck throwing out thick black exhaust?(this is the engine dumping fuel during knock, mine did this before switching fuels).

Is there any vibration? Could be a damaged front prop.

To do a real quick check on your TC. Get up to a steady 60mph in forth of course and just tap the brake. This should make the rpms jump 3 or 4 hundred rpm as the TC unlocks.

There are many things that could cause what you are describing. Check all your mounting points since the tranny was just reinstalled and make sure no bolts were loose or left out.

If you play with it some more, write back with more info.

Sorry, i should explain more. i am running a TCI 10 inch non-lockup 3500 stall convertor in my built 4L60.

I had BG do the tuning, so i am sure the thing is running smoothly. no balck smoke out the back? this is why i am baffled by this. i wish someone near me had a scan tool for the speedpro that i could hookup to see if there is a problem (Pittsburgh, PA), does anyone?
